The Human Services department is seeking a permanent full time Director of Care to join our dynamic team at Victoria Manor Long Term Care. Reporting to the Executive Director, t his position provides overall accountability and leadership in the nursing department to support the delivery of resident care and services in accordance with the organization’s vision, mission, and values and legislative requirements. Working in a team environment, the Director of Care ensures overall operations in the nursing department and effectively manages resources and services allocation to meet resident care needs.

**Essential Responsibilities**:

- Plan, coordinate, direct, and monitor the effectiveness of all operational activities within the nursing department
- Promote a resident-centred care approach that engages residents, families, and team members to deliver care that meets individual resident needs
- Model and foster an environment of positive customer service in all aspects of care
- Oversee nursing processes to ensure that all documentation is completed in a manner that maximizes base funding and ensures access to other available funding initiatives
- Delegate responsibility to nursing team based on clearly defined lines of authority and communication
- Ensure that all required nursing committees are functioning within their terms of reference and areas of responsibility
- Participate in Support Services Committee Meetings as required and external committees as required
- Establish a standard of practices within the nursing team to ensure that policies and procedures are followed and Nursing Practice Standards are met in accordance with College of Nurses Standards
- Consult with the Support Services Clinical Team on the development of policy and procedures
- Collaborate with Nursing Leaders on learning needs and makes provisions for appropriate education and continuing team member development
- Ensure the implementation of a complete quality and risk management program for the nursing department
- Ensure the development of corrective action plans to address areas of risks and non
- compliance in a timely manner, e.g. Provincial Regulatory Authorities, Public Health, Ministry of Labour
- Actively participate in the evaluation of the mandatory clinical programs and Quality committees such as Resident Safety, Leadership & Quality, Professional Advisory Committee
- As a member of the leadership team:_
- Develop and administer procedures and allocate resources to achieve Victoria Manor’s strategic objectives
- Complete continuous research, analysis of industry trends, issues to remain knowledgeable in all aspects of care
- Develop directives, standards, measurements and procedures in order to deliver the defined goals and priorities
- Demonstrate leadership in supporting team members, providing feedback and/or corrective action
- Lead the development of the annual nursing budget; Manage and monitor all nursing envelope expenditures, explain monthly variances, and work with the Executive Director to identity corrective actions
- Ensure effective and efficient procurement and supply control procedures within the nursing department
- Manage stakeholder interactions in the supply and receipt information, analysis and resolution of issues
- Manage customer service concerns, investigating, problem solving and responding as appropriate
- Research, quantify, facilitate and coordinate delivery of training needs to staff
- Administer public relations activities on behalf of the department, identifying and communicating with all necessary audiences
