We are a non-profit charity, providing hospice and community services to the people of New Tecumseth and surrounding areas supporting living life fully and dying with dignity. We walk together with families and community members through the journey of illness and grief offering a variety of day programs, counselling, and palliative care. We believe everyone should have access to the right palliative and bereavement care when and where they need it. We are excited to be developing plans to expand our services to the community in the near future.

**SCOPE**:
**The Human Resources Manager, under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, is primarily responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the human resources department. The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for overseeing personnel management, including wage increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions in compliance with company policies. This position will also determine staffing and volunteer requirements and oversee the recruitment process.**

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate human resources activities.
- Oversee personnel management, including wage increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions in compliance with company policies.
- Determine staffing requirements and oversee the recruitment process.
- Develop performance goals, metrics, and targets that are consistent with company goals.
- Administer progressive disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures.
- Plan human resources requirements in conjunction with other departmental managers.
- Determine areas of improvement for employees, providing additional training as needed.
- Develop training programs that are based on regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Conduct workplace investigations and resolve any conflicts that arise among staff in the department.
- Ensure employees adhere to all health and safety regulations, including company policies.
- Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations.
- Participate in site and workplace inspections.
- Provide coaching to managers and employees on key workplace matters such as performance management, difficult conversations, employee relations, and employee development.
- Monitor assigned payroll activities and program components for the purpose of ensuring effective department functioning, coordinating activities, and compliance with established financial, legal, and administrative requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**VOLUNTEER PROGRAM**:

- Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment plan including an annual needs assessment congruent with organizational strategic and operational plans.
- Collaborate with program leaders to ensure their volunteer requirements are met.
- Develop and implement an annual volunteer program work plan including scheduled communication, educational activities, refresher training, feedback surveys and recognition events.
- Maintain all volunteer records (electronic databases and paper files) and documents.
- Establish networking relationships with other hospices utilizing volunteers and volunteer organizations and identify external opportunities in support of MHH program.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Degree or diploma in human resources management, business administration, or a related field required.
- Certification in human resources management by a provincial governing body preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to meet strategic objectives for HR and the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage HR core processes such as talent management, succession planning, and employee relations.
- Able to make sound business decisions and evidence-based recommendations to senior management.
- Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills.
- Sound leadership, staff management, and teambuilding skills.
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
- Able to interpret and implement personnel related legislation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of labour laws.
