Family Centre Coordinator

**Job Summary**:
The Family Centre Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and administration of early learning programs for caregivers with children 0-6 years and family-oriented events and initiatives. Early learning programs promote the successful physical and social development of children while enhancing parent-child attachment. Family-focused events and initiatives address important basic needs while providing opportunities for families to connect and socialize.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:
Develop, implement and evaluate programs for parents and their children ages 0-6 such as:
- physical literacy activities
- parent /child attachment opportunities
- arts and crafts
- Parent and Child Drop-ins (socialization) including preparation of a healthy snack
- Outdoor park day during summer months
In collaboration with team members plan, Implement and evaluate family and community events and initiatives such as:
- Seasonal dinner events at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas
- Winter initiatives such as Coats for Kids and the Christmas Hamper program
- Food security programs such as snack bags or food hampers when funding is available
- Coordinate the pickup of food donations such as Cold Star and fruit and veggie bags for families.
- Manage the Resource Room to ensure donated clothing, food and goods are organized and accessible to staff for families (work with a longtime volunteer).
Program Administration
- Ensure parents use sign-in sheets
- Ensure licensing requirements are met for kitchen use
- Ensure various demographic information is collected and documented to complete reports for various funders
- Complete monthly program calendars
- Work with BGCA’s Communications Coordinator to ensure appropriate program promotion through brochures and social media
- Monthly reconciliation of expenses
Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships
- Engage in a welcoming, positive and enthusiastic manner with parents and children
- Provide support and resources to families
- Develop and maintain business and community donor relationships
- Develop and maintain positive volunteer relationships.
**Qualifications**:
- Experience working in Early Childhood Development programs
- Experience in group facilitation
- Knowledge of community resources
- Demonstrate understanding of the complex issues facing low-income, multi-barriered families and children
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal skills
- Proven critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter, innovative and able to work well independently and in a team setting
- Ability to be creative and imaginative in approach to problem-solving
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher
- Food Safe Certification
- Parenting program certification an asset
- Driver’s License and reliable vehicle mandatory
**Additional Information**:
- Burnside Gorge Community Association encourages a spirit of contribution within the workplace. There is an expectation that staff will participate, if they are able, in community or special events on occasion throughout the year in the spirit of volunteerism.
- Employees will carry business class insurance for personal vehicles used for work purposes, including a minimum of two million dollars in liability insurance. The employee is responsible for the expense.
**Hours of work**:
25-35 hours per week. Monday to Friday. $25 an hour. Weekend work may be required on occasion during special events
BGCA offers extended health and dental benefits and an opportunity to opt into a matched RRSP after a successful three-month probation period. Paid sick leave.
