**About Us**:
The Land Use Secretariat supports Albertans by leading the development, review and implementation of integrated land use plans, under the Alberta Land Stewardship Act (ALSA) to manage our province's land and natural resources to achieve Alberta’s long-term economic, environmental and social goals.

The Secretariat works across government departments, independent of any specific department, and reports directly to the Stewardship Commissioner to support the Stewardship Minister. The Secretariat provides leadership for the Government of Alberta in developing, reviewing and implementing regional plans and land stewardship tools, and ensuring that legislative requirements are met. The team provides comprehensive strategic policy advice and legislative analysis, and coordinates plan and tool development, policy integration and issues resolution processes leading to Cabinet approval of regional plans and other tools under ALSA.

The work of the Secretariat supports implementing the Land-use Framework, with the participation of Albertans, requiring support for a spectrum of education, engagement and consultation approaches with diverse perspectives and needs, such as:

- Designing and delivering education, information and awareness programs,
- Designing and delivering engagement and consultation required in ALSA statutory processes, and improved involvement in land use planning processes (including promoting improvements to inclusion of Indigenous peoples (First Nations and Métis) in land-use planning processes,
- Fulfilling legal consultation processes under ALSA, and
- Leading and ensuring the Government of Alberta continues to meet Alberta's legal duty to consult aboriginal communities as outlined in the Government of Alberta’s consultation policies and guidelines.

The Land Use Secretariat is seeking an engaging, collaborative, and team-oriented individual who has knowledge and experience fostering relationships and engaging a diverse range of parties and coordinating consultation for land use planning and land stewardship tools under ALSA.

Reporting to the Director of Integrated Planning and LUF Implementation, the Engagement and Consultation Specialist provides specialized expertise and leadership associated with implementation of the Land-use Framework's strategies in the areas of:

- Planning, initiating and facilitating effective working relationships with Albertans (municipalities, boards, non-government organizations, private industry, Indigenous peoples and landowners),
- Planning and facilitating the delivery of education, information and awareness programs for key priority areas,
- Planning and facilitating the delivery of complex and diverse engagement and consultation requirements to ensure sound information and advice is provided to planning teams and decision-makers,
- Planning and coordinating the documentation of input and perspectives from engagement and consultation processes,
- Participating in the preparation of decision packages for ALSA and its regulations, and ALSA regional plans or amendments to regional plans, including determinations of consultation adequacy and reports on consultation results,
- Providing advice and support in relation to complex communications and relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations,
- Providing advice and support in implementing the Government of Alberta's policies and guidelines for consultation with First Nations and Métis Settlements,
- Developing practices and procedures for the delivery of consistent approaches for engagement and consultation in ALSA processes, and
- Documenting and verifying that awareness, information and consultation/engagement requirements and practices are met and appropriate parties are aware of what has been heard.

The Secretariat works in a fast-paced environment supporting executive level decision-making and deals with a large volume of policy issues and decisions. As such the position must balance competing interests and priorities in an effective and efficient manner. Time management, organization and coordination skills are essential.
