**About Us**:
The Strategic Engagement and Policy Innovation (SEPI) branch is a Centre of Excellence within the Consultation and Land Claims (CLC) division. SEPI provides a strong foundation of policy development, strategic engagement, expert advice and relationship building through education, training, and capacity funding to ensure Alberta fulfills its duty to consult in matters related to land and natural resource development and management while considering the needs of all parties; including Indigenous communities, industry, municipalities and regulators. The Branch also leads the development of ministry strategic policy.

The SEPI branch is comprised of complimentary and interconnected business teams that focus on:

- Strategic Engagement
- Education and Capacity Building
- Land Policy and Strategic Policy Innovation, and
- Knowledge Management.

Together the SEPI units work in concert to develop strategic policy positions and province-wide consultation policies, guidelines and best practices; develop tools and education resources to support effective and efficient engagement and consultation; and, provide capacity funding to support Indigenous communities’ participation in meaningful consultation and engagement.

SEPI supports government priorities by working closely with the Integrated Resource Management System (IRMS) departments and providing expert advice to facilitate the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives in the development and implementation of regional plans under Alberta’s Land Use Framework and contributing to various government initiatives which support reconciliation.

The Strategic Engagement Analyst assumes a critical position within the organization, dedicated to fostering inclusive practices and advancing Indigenous perspectives within land and natural resource management engagement, policies or decisions. Operating as a pivotal link between partner ministry project teams and Indigenous groups and organizations, the Analyst is entrusted with guiding engagement strategies, analyzing outcomes, and formulating recommendations that drive senior-level decision-making. This multifaceted role necessitates a combination of expertise in Indigenous engagement, analytical acumen, and strategic thinking to effectively navigate a complex landscape and contribute to informed, inclusive decision-making.

The key responsibilities of the Strategic Engagement Analyst includes:

- Engagement Strategy Development: Collaborate on comprehensive engagement plans inclusive of Indigenous perspectives, advice on fostering relationships, and identifying issues, concerns and outcomes.
- Analysis and Recommendations: Review and evaluate draft plans, synthesize insights for strategic recommendations, and prepare detailed advice documents for cross-ministry project teams.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Cultivate relationships within the ministry, IRMS project teams, and Indigenous groups,, ensuring effective conflict resolution and understanding of concerns.
- Implementation Coordination: Coordinate engagement processes across projects, collaborating with ministries to align objectives and processes.
- Research and Innovation: Stay updated on emerging engagement practices, propose solutions, and contribute to the evolution of engagement strategies.
- Communication and Reporting: provide records management for engagement processes, prepare concise briefing materials for management, and present recommendations to diverse audiences.
- Relationship Maintenance: Foster networks, offer advice on historical and cultural nuances, and maintain connections with Indigenous communities.
- Goal Advancement and Improvement: Inform unit priorities, devise strategies to enhance engagement processes, and complete and maintain internal reporting systems, including lessons learned.

**Qualifications**:
4 years University graduation in a related field (natural resource/environmental management education or background) plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

**Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of**:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
