Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) is the Government of Alberta’s full-service communications, public relations and marketing department.

CPE delivers coordinated, government-wide communications that provide Albertans with information about government programs and initiatives and how to access government services. In addition to branches in each ministry that provide strategic communications planning, media relations and other communications support, CPE also provides government-wide communications including digital communications, web development, graphic design, marketing, translation services, public opinion research, public engagement, media monitoring and crisis communications. CPE also manages the government’s website, Alberta.ca, social media channels and houses the Premier’s Correspondence Unit.

As the Issues and Operations Manager, you will be at the heart of our department’s leadership team, directly supporting the Managing Director (MD) and Director of Executive Operations (DEO). Your work will have a significant impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of our executive operations, directly influencing the delivery of communications throughout the Government of Alberta and to the Premier's Office.

What You’ll Do:

- Strategic Issues Management: You’ll anticipate, identify, and address emerging issues, ensuring that our executive leaders are well-informed and prepared to take action. You’ll build and maintain key relationships with the Premier's Office, Ministers' Office, and Deputy Ministers' Office, acting as a vital link between these stakeholders and our department.
- Operational Excellence: You’ll develop and implement management systems that enhance organizational efficiency, support business requirements, and ensure compliance with government policies. You’ll also assist in managing briefings, background materials, and senior leadership meetings.
- Leadership and Oversight: Acting as the DEO when required, you’ll provide leadership and direction on departmental initiatives, budgets, and special projects. You’ll monitor strategic initiatives and collaborate with other areas of the department to ensure successful outcomes.
- Employee Engagement: You’ll work closely with the DEO and MD to foster a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion, supporting staff engagement and communication strategies across the department

- Experience: Proven experience in issues management, operations management, or a related field within a government or large organizational setting.
- Skills: Strong relationship management, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage complex projects and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
