Alberta Education supports students, parents, teachers and administrators from Early Childhood Services (ECS) through Grade 12. The Ministry provides funding to over 300 provincial school authorities for ECS to Grade 12, within the Financial Services and Capital Planning Division.
Through safe and caring schools for all students, Alberta’s government is making life better by investing in education - one of the most important investments we can make in our future. The Ministry has the following responsibilities: develop curriculum and set standards; evaluate curriculum and assess outcomes; teacher development and certification; support students with diverse learning needs; fund and support school boards; First Nations, Métis and Inuit and Francophone education; and oversees basic education policy and regulations.
**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director, the Curriculum Consultant leads complex curriculum projects and works collaboratively with their team to support the operations and overall functioning of the branch, and supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of high-quality Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) curriculum that is in alignment with The Guiding Framework for the Design and Development of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Provincial Curriculum (The Guiding Framework).
The Curriculum Consultant must develop and maintain strong communication and working relationships with stakeholders and be well connected with the education community to stay informed of educational contexts, share curriculum knowledge, and ensure timely and accurate information flow and identification of issues.
The Curriculum Consultant actively performs the following tasks as a part of their role:
- Seeks input to inform curriculum development and implementation decisions
- Contributes to the authentic inclusion of Francophone and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and experiences in the curriculum development and implementation processes.
- Works collaboratively with team members to support decision making regarding content, development processes, research, and planning.
- Developing analyses, business cases, and briefing notes to assist with decision-making processes.
- Preparing a department response, including briefing materials, appropriate support materials, and correspondence.
- Leading and supporting the maintenance and development of high-quality curriculum.
- Provides expertise, advice, and support for the development of new curriculum in Social Studies
- Studying the nature and intricacies of the request

**Qualifications**:
Master's Degree in a related field plus five years related experience or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Bachelor's Degree in a related field plus seven years of related experience.
Assets:
- Knwledge and understanding of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Social Studies, including a thorough understanding of its philosophy, history, and current and formative research
- Knowledge of various policies and legislations like The Guide to Education, K-12, Education Act, FOIP Act
- Understanding of research on the principles of 21st century learning and the implications for curriculum development.
- Sound project management and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Fluency in both French
