**Job Overview**
An integral member of the NAFC’s management team, the Policy and Research Manager is responsible for overseeing the NAFC’s policy development, managing and carrying out research on organizationally relevant policies as well as evaluating and interpreting data to produce insights for decision-making.

**Key Responsibilities**
 Provides advice and recommendations to the CEO on policy and research-related matters;
 Oversees day-to-day activities associated with the Policy and Research Department including the supervision of policy and research staff;
 Oversees, develops and implements NAFC’s strategic goals and objectives related to policy and research;
 Coordinates the development and implementation of policy files with the policy team in areas such as (but not limited to): urban Indigenous policy, housing, homelessness, MMIWG2S+, children’s rights, child care and early learning, climate change, UNDRIP, legislative review, international advocacy, anti-violence, access to justice, sports and recreation, and health care;
 Oversees the government relations strategy;
 Coordinates the development of reports, policy papers, advisory committees, and other documents to appropriately document Program activities;
 Ensures accurate, timely, and transparent reporting related to the implementation of multiple agreements;
 Oversees development of manuals, templates, forms and record-keeping processes required to appropriately document Policy and Research activities
 Coordinates the preparation of reports to the NAFC Board of Directors and membership;
 Coordinates the development of the Policy and Research Department’s annual work plan and budget;
 Recommends new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization;
 Develops funding proposals as needed;
 Responsible for the ongoing liaison with Federal Government to ensure clear and transparent lines of communication;
 Provides technical support to NAFC or board committees;
 Ensures Policy and Research activities operate within the established policies and procedures of the organization;
 Ensures Policy and Research activities comply with all relevant legislation and with contribution agreement and grant terms and conditions;
 Works with the Programs Manager to identify and implement opportunities for research and policy development to support FC programs;
 Works with the Partnerships Manager to identify and implement opportunities for NAFC membership and network,
 Collaborates on the development of the annual State of the Friendship Centre Movement report;
 Supports the NAFC Annual Meeting coordination annually;
 Provides technical support to the NAFC Board of Directors and relevant committee structures; and
 Supports the development of strategic partnerships

**Qualifications**
 Master’s Degree in a related field, or equivalent
 Management experience at a senior level
 Demonstrated ability to effectively manage people and lead teams
 Experience working in a, not for profit environment
 Experience working with Indigenous communities, preferably in an urban setting
 Experience working with the Federal Government, preferably the Department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada
 Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
 Comprehensive knowledge of databases and other software
 Knowledge and understanding of NAFC’s priorities, mandate, organizational structure and the Friendship Centre Movement’s program and service delivery infrastructure
 Able to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and work under pressure
 Being able to work in both official languages is an asset. Fluency in an Indigenous language is also an asset.
