Nature of the work:
- The Student Life Counsellor is responsible for planning, implementing, developing, leading, managing, and evaluating activity programs associated with student life, relating to the institutional directions, strategic plan, and success plan of the College particularly in the following sectors: sociocultural life, sports and outdoor activities, economic life, and community life.
- Specifically, the incumbent is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing student activities, including para-academic activities, in collaboration with the academic sector, and for providing leadership opportunities for students that promote student engagement and support graduate profiles.**Responsibilities**:
- In conjunction with students and other stakeholders, evaluate the activity needs of the College and offer student leadership opportunities that allow them to be active in College life and develop as an individual;
- Oversee the promotion, planning, implementation, and evaluation of various programs and activities for students, as well as for specific clienteles, particularly ethnic groups and people with disabilities;
- Oversee the promotion, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all College club activities and student spaces;
- Serve as the College liaison and resource person with the Dawson College Student Union (DSU) and collaborate when possible with the DSU in offering programs and services to the student population;
- Perform duties associated with the promotion and implementation of the Recognition of Student Involvement program for students and liaise with the Registrar’s Office in order to have these volunteer hours denoted on official student transcripts;
- In collaboration with the academic sector, plan, promote, implement, and evaluate the annual College Entrepreneurship Week;
- Collaborate with academic departments in organizing activities associated with RIASQ and support department organized activities such as Art Exhibits (vernissages), special events, fundraisers, and orientation activities;
- Collaborate with the Peace Studies Office in the implementation of peace studies activities;
- Collaborate with the Office for International Students to plan and organize activities to support international and out-of-town students;
- Collaborate with the Sustainability Office in the implementation of their initiatives;
- Help support the objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan;
- Collaborate with the Communications Department in the promotion and operation of the Blue Ring Society;
- Collaborate with the Awards and Scholarship Department in the promotion and implementation of the Forces AVENIR program;
- In cooperation with the Campus Life and Leadership (CLL) Support Agent, oversee and maintain the CLL social media accounts, the used books exchange, locker module, and off-campus housing registry;
- In collaboration with Miriam Home and Services, oversee and offer support to the Best Buddies program operating at the College;
- Chair the Campus Life and Leadership Department meetings and follow up with the CLL staff on items;
- Provide students, faculty, and staff with resources and guidance in the support of student life projects and initiatives;
- Contribute to the establishment and evaluation of annual objectives, work plan items, policies, procedures, and budgets within CLL Department;
- Oversee the CCL budgets and ensure that College policies are followed with regard to spending allocated budgets;
- In collaboration with the Coordinator of Student Services, plan, organize and evaluate Orientation Activities (Welcome Week, Program Orientations, and Special Events) for new students;
- Participate in various College committees, as requested, such as the Student Communication Committee;
- Perform other related duties as necessary.

- Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline such as Recreation and Leisure Studies, Physical & Health Education, Communication and Cultural Studies, or Leadership.
- Conditions:
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, communication, and administrative skills;
- Ability to understand and work with CEGEP students and their issues;
- Computer literacy (Basic Word and Excel);
- Advanced oral and written English communication skills;
- Advanced oral and written French communication skills.
