Nature of the Work:

- The job of social service officer more involves prevention, screening and intervention with students who are experiencing or likely to experience emotional, social, academic or family problem.
- More specifically, under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Social Service Officer is responsible for student discipline. In the Social Service Officer’s role, the incumbent will endeavour to create and maintain an environment conducive to fostering a mutual respect between members of the Dawson College community.**Responsibilities**:
- Assesses, investigates, and intervenes in cases calling for disciplinary action;
- Mediates between students and other members of the Dawson community in order to prevent or resolve conflict;
- Liaises with Security on matters of student discipline;
- Coordinates and facilitates meetings of the Student Discipline Committee;
- Provides support to the DSU and their clubs and coaches them on Leadership and Team Building;
- Acts as an advisor to faculty regarding student misconduct and classroom management;
- Ensures policies and procedures related to student discipline are updated and respected (Code of Conduct) and applies disciplinary measures when appropriate;
- Makes recommendations about administrative policies and procedures pertaining to student rights and responsibilities (Code of Conduct, Policy on Sexual Violence);
- Works collaboratively with members of the Dawson community on discipline and the implementation of ongoing activities;
- Develops and facilitates awareness workshops to enhance student life;
- Help students make the best use of available opportunities and resources to fully develop their individual potential;
- Provide the necessary professional skills to students and the Dawson community in problem solving and conflict resolution in a safe and healthy manner;
- Provide crisis intervention strategies;
- Plan programs to promote a positive and caring college climate;
- Maintain up-to-date record keeping and statistical analysis system;
- Works in collaboration with members of the First Year Student Office as a collaborator, in addition to SSAC and Counselling.
- Perform other duties as required.

**Requirements**:

- Qualifications:

- An undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline, particularly, social work or a related field
- Conditions:
- Relevant experience in working with students and faculty
- Ability to communicate with a diverse student population
- Ability to function within a collaborative environment
- Excellent English and French oral and written competencies (to be tested);
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (to be tested);
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
