NATURE OF WORK
- The job of pedagogical counsellor involves more specifically functions of advising, leading, providing information, as well as development, support and feedback to the teaching staff, the executive staff responsible for teaching services and other stakeholders at the College, in connection with pedagogy, and particularly programs of study, learning and teaching strategies, nature and methods of evaluation, as well as research and innovation.
- RESPONSIBILITIES- Identify and assess the learning difficulties of students experiencing significant challenges in French as a second language (FSL) courses at the college level.
- Develop workshops in French language skills
- Metacognitive strategies for language learning
- Provide individual professional support in reading, writing and language development to students with difficulties in FSL courses.
- Work one-on-one with at-risk students identified by their French teachers as those who require specialized intervention.
- Work with students from vulnerable populations who have not been diagnosed with a disability
- Provide support for Continuing Education students in French courses
- Develop pedagogical strategies to assist students with difficulties in FSL courses.
- Provide French language drop-in support to students
- Maintain up to date records of activities and applied learning interventions and pedagogical strategies.
- Document observations for each student with regards to progress made, challenges encountered as well as goals either in progress or achieved.
- Collaborate actively and on a regular basis, through meetings and correspondence, with French department faculty and with CLÉO by providing documented information concerning individual student progress and needs as well as assistance provided by the pedagogical counsellor.
- Consult with and assist French department faculty in the development and implementation of pedagogical strategies geared to students having difficulties in FSL courses.
- Work in collaboration with the Academic Skills Team members, the Faculty of the French Department and members of CLÉO to:

- Organize Classroom Presentations
- Available for drop-in support for their students
- Prepare handouts
- Participate in Program committees
- Perform other related duties.

**Requirements**:

- QUALIFICATIONS
- An undergraduate degree in an appropriate field of specialization, particularly education.
- CONDITIONS- Proven knowledge in remedial education
- Excellent French language skills (Testing may be required)
- Very good English skills (Testing may be required)
- Knowledge of a third language is an asset
- Basic knowledge of computers (Testing may be required)- Ability to communicate with a diverse student population
- Ability to function easily in a collaborative environment.
- A Master’s degree would be an asset
