Please be advised that a permanent Clerk II position is available with an initial work assignment in Edmonton within the Accounting department.

**Summary of duties**

Under the functional direction of the Accounting Clerk II, the Clerk II performs moderately complex work, routine and repetitive in nature. The work varies as to the details of tasks performed and requires original thought in deciding course of action as well as skill in performance. Good judgment in making decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures is required. Employees are expected to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Responsible for a variety of functions including calculating, posting, filing and maintaining accurate accounting records.

**Qualifications**
- Grade 12 Diploma.
- Strong computer skills.
- Knowledge of common accounting procedures
- Business degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution would be an asset.

**Experience**
- **Previous**: One (1) year prior experience in bookkeeping, or accounting assignments including record keeping
- **On the Job**: Nine (9) months on the job to become familiar with the office equipment, procedures, computer system, related programs/software, and AUPE policies and procedures.

**General Duties**
- Handle/deposit cash and negotiable securities (i.e. cheques, money orders)
- Posts accounting documents in manual and computerized records involving receipts, invoices, requisitions, voucher, etc.
- Assists in balancing accounts by running tapes, proofreading, prepares summaries of balances, and other reports as required.
- Files and maintains clerical records and reports pertinent to accounting and bookkeeping or technical operations.

**Accounts Payable/Receivable**
- Match back up to invoices.
- Totals accounts using calculator.
- Responds to general accounting questions.
- May assist with, or prepare, trial balances.
- Enters accounting data.
- Matching, proofing, and filing documents.

**Administrative/Miscellaneous Duties**
- Provides main switchboard reception relief as required.
- Handles and distributes accounting department mail.
- Deliver deposits to the bank.
- Performs filing, photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
- Maintains office supplies.

**Other Skills/Abilities**
- The incumbent must possess a pleasant manner, as regularly will be required to work with members or other staff in stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationship with the membership, the public and other AUPE employees
- Ability to work cohesively in a team environment is essential.
