Job Description: Medical Office Assistant (18-month fixed term contract starting May 2023)

About Enable Medical:

- This position is a fixed term contract for 18-months covering maternity leave with a May 2023 start date.
- Enable Medical is a modern medical clinic located in Mount Pleasant, Vancouver. The clinic is in a brand new building called HOUSS. We are steps away from all transit options, bike routes, boutiques, breweries and restaurants.
- The clinic is brand new, comfortable and modern with a bright staff room including floor to ceiling windows and personal lockers. We have five patient rooms.
- We are a small team of friendly, professional and enthusiastic staff with a “can-do” attitude. We may not always have the answers, but we are always looking for better ways to do things, creative ways to solve problems, and we are not afraid to try new methods. We are looking for someone with a similar mindset.
- The clinic currently operates with one physical medicine & rehabilitation specialist with plans to expand. We only offer electromyography and nerve conduction studies at the moment (EMG/NCS).
- We expect to expand to include more medical practitioners in the future and will offer additional services to patients depending on the practitioner’s specialty and interests.

- What is electromyography and nerve conduction studies?
- Electromyography and nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCS) are diagnostic tests that check the health of someone’s nerves and muscles. We diagnose neuromuscular abnormalities, aid with prognostication, and suggest next steps to the patient's family doctor for investigations and treatment.

**Job Type, Hours, Compensation & Benefits**
- Job type: Full time, 18-month fixed term contract starting May 2023
- Hours: 40 hours / week
- Compensation: depends on level of experience, ranging from $40,000 - $60,000 per year

**Qualifications**

Required:

- A Medical Office Assistant certificate is required.
- At least two years minimum of work experience is required.
- Valid visa or citizenship status for permanent employment in Canada is required.
- Required start date: May 1, 2023

Nice to have but not required:

- Experience working in a specialist’s office is highly desirable.
- Experience using TELUS CHR (“TELUS Collaborative Health Record”, previously called “InputHealth” - the health software that we use) is highly desirable.
- Experience using Mac OS is desirable.
- Experience using an Android or iOS tablet is desirable.
- A basic understanding of physical medicine & rehabilitation, electromyography and nerve conduction studies is desirable.
- The ability to speak a second language is desirable as many patients do not speak English as their first language.
- Experience with recruiting, training and/or managing other staff is desirable.

**Role**
- This position is a fixed term contract for 18-months covering maternity leave with a May 2023 start date.
- The Medical Office Assistant at Enable Medical is a critical part of our team. They are the “face” of the clinic.
- The Medical Office Assistant will work closely with all physicians and other staff at the clinic.
- The Medical Office Assistant is responsible for maintaining professional, helpful, and positive interactions between referring physicians, patients and Enable Medical.
- The quality of these interactions will impact whether referring practitioners will continue to refer to the clinic, impact patient satisfaction, and in turn, the amount of revenue that the clinic will generate.
- The Medical Office Assistant will dictate the physician’s schedule, which in turn, dictates the amount of revenue that the clinic generates.
- The Medical Office Assistant will report directly to the Managing Director of Enable Medical. Training will be provided to the Medical Office Assistant by the current administrator until she departs for maternity leave.
- The long term expectation is that the Medical Office Assistant will be able to eventually run the clinic independently from an administrative perspective, with the support of the Managing Director.
- As the clinic expands, the Medical Office Assistant may be responsible for hiring, training and managing other Medical Office Assistants. They will also be responsible for defining processes on how best to support the medical practitioners at Enable Medical.
- The most challenging part of the job is to always interact with other clinics and patients in a professional, helpful and friendly manner.
