The Ministry of Municipal Affairs supports municipalities in providing well-managed, fiscally responsible, and accountable local government to Albertans. This includes administering municipal grant programs; delivering advisory and capacity-building supports; providing municipal services and managing public lands in the province’s three Special Areas; and overseeing the safety codes system in the province. The ministry also fosters stronger, safer communities across the province, and enables local governments to facilitate Alberta’s economic prosperity.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Municipal Assessment and Grants division (MAG) administers the Local Government Fiscal Framework and other grant programs for Alberta municipalities, oversees the property assessment system in Alberta, and is responsible for assessing all designated industrial property in the province. The Issues Manager is a key member of the MAG leadership team who provides direct support to the ADM in addressing emerging issues, coordinates action on divisional priorities, oversees division-wide business processes and reporting, and manages the ADMO support staff.

Specifically the Issues Manager is responsible for:
Coordinating strategic policy initiatives, as well as providing strategic advice to the ADM and to divisional leadership on policy issues and initiatives of significance to the division;
Coordinating the division's activities related to issues management, correspondence, and preparation of briefings and policy documents, including the provision of advice to divisional managers and staff;
Managing the division's operational planning and reporting functions, as well as its financial and budget processes, and its input into the ministry business plan;
Leading and directing support staff within the ADMO and supporting their growth and development;
Representing the ADM and the division on significant cross-divisional initiatives;
Managing the provision of operational support to the division, including the allocation of office space and planning and coordination of the division's IT requirements; and leading, coordinating and/or supporting initiatives to ensure a positive and productive workplace within the division.
