The Vice Dean Undergraduate Office supports and administers the undergraduate student experience in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. This includes the co-curricular and extracurricular facets of student life as well as enhancing aspects of the academic learning experience in collaboration with faculty, staff, and partners across the University.

**Your opportunity**:
Under the direction of the Vice Dean, Undergraduate and Assistant Director, Student Experience & Teaching Development, the Learning Strategist is responsible for developing and delivering programming and services that foster academic skill development for a diverse population of full-time and part-time undergraduate Engineering students. The Learning Strategist will offer one-on-one appointments, group-based drop-in sessions, facilitate workshops and other programmatic opportunities, as well as co-ordinate the engSuccess mentorship peer program.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with Engineering departments and offices (e.g. the First Year Office) as well as internal U of T partners (e.g. the Division of Student Life) to find opportunities to tailor and integrate academic learning skills support within specific programs and courses. The Learning Strategist will engage with students, staff, and faculty members to increase awareness and understanding of academic skills that can enhance the learning experience for students.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Coaching students on how to improve their learning and metacognitive skills
- Liaising with an inter-disciplinary support team on the best approach to provide student care and service
- Planning and developing components of learning support programs, educational programs and/or course design
- Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives
- Conducting a detailed analysis of student feedback and learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
- Recruiting and training student learning support mentors
- Providing advice and support to students and mentors on program delivery matters.
- Keeping well-informed on the research, literature, theory, trends and best practices for post-secondary success

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Master's Degree in a relevant area of study (i.e. education, adult learning) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience and education
- Minimum four years related experience supporting a range of students with diverse educational experiences
- Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity, inclusion, and access, with an understanding of the life experiences and needs of a diverse student population
- Demonstrated experience advising and coaching students, tailoring support based on individual needs and centering empathy when engaging with students
- Demonstrated experience with program and curriculum development, delivery, and assessment, including developing and facilitating skills-oriented workshops and leading small group learning sessions
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and ability to build and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with students, staff, and faculty members
- Sound judgement and sensitivity, resourcefulness, and ability to think creatively and initiate independent collaborations with faculty and staff
- Experience working with student leaders or leading student staff
- Proven knowledge of and ability to research, learn and utilize theoretical approaches and best-practices for academic learning skills to support student resilience and success
- Awareness of current and emerging trends around learning in a University environment
- Knowledge about university structures, a clear understanding of academic policies and procedures and specific learning requirements within courses and programs
- Excellent computer skills (e.g. Access, Word, Excel, Power Point)
