**ABOUT US**:
Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) administers, protects, and conserves public lands and waters, and provides opportunities for resource development and outdoor recreation for the continuous economic and social benefit of the people of Ontario. The ministry's programs are concerned with the use of the physical resources such as land, water, trees, fish, animals and certain minerals for resource utilization and recreation.

The Centre for Northern Forest Ecosystem Research (CNFER) in Thunder Bay is an applied research section of MNRF's Science and Research Branch with a focus on the effects of forestry practices on boreal ecosystems and their populations. Built in 1990, CNFER's mandate is to conduct long-term research on the effects and the effectiveness of resource management policies. CNFER staff also address emerging issues and support government priorities in forest, fish and wildlife, water, and human dimensions science, emphasizing cross-disciplinary approaches. The six major research programs are stand ecology, boreal silviculture, boreal aquatic effects, northern mammal ecology, human dimensions of resource development, and human dimensions of ecosystem management.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: Reporting to the Manager of the Centre for Northern Forest Ecosystem Research, you will:

- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of multiple programs engaged in science research and inventory/monitoring programs, database management, and science acquisition to inform policy and/or program development of particular programs (e.g., wildlife, fisheries, forestry, biodiversity/habitat).
- Liaise with provincial and regional client groups and provincial, federal and international resource agencies regarding policy and program initiatives.
- Work closely with peer Coordinators across Science and Research Branch and elsewhere (e.g. Science Coordinators in Ontario Parks, Technical Coordinators in the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change) to foster relationships ensuring effective and efficient use of resources for the development and implementation of science, research and inventory/monitoring programs and projects.
- Ensure staff is working in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, as well as the ministry and divisional policies and protocols (e.g. conducts accident investigations, provides on-call support to team(s).
- Identify the delivers the science needs required to support policy and program development and lead provincial task teams in the planning, review, or development of provincial and regional natural resource policies, legislation, programs, standards, and guidelines.

**How do I qualify?**:
**Technical Knowledge**:

- You have knowledge of natural resources in at least one or more of the following areas, e.g. aquatic ecology, forestry, biodiversity, habitat, wildlife, and fisheries management theories, assessment methodology and practices, and impacts of human development on natural resources and communities.
- You have experience in the development and implementation of bio-monitoring programs, information management products, research, and science-informed management solutions to evaluate the health of ecosystems through an assessment of biological communities, e.g. wildlife, fisheries, forests, biodiversity/habitats, etc.
- You have a diversity of work experiences contributing to a unique occupational health and safety environment to represent management interests.

**Strategic Leadership Skills**:

- You have experience providing strategic direction, guidance and coaching to staff and/or project teams.
