The **Faculty Development** within **VP Development and Alumni** is currently seeking a Full-time Staff Limited Term **Major Gifts Advisor **for approximately 2 years.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine's Development Office is a business unit of both the University's Central Development Office and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Its role is to raise funds and steward donors on behalf of both the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine specific priorities and University of Calgary priorities. The school's fund development unit is an active, community-oriented team that enhances development efforts to support the school's strategic plan as well as the University's strategy and supporting Academic and Research Plans.
This position reports to the Director of Development, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and works closely with other members of both the faculty and the University Development Teams. This position is responsible for developing and cultivating donor relationships to secure donations to help achieve philanthropic goals and objectives. High volume of work, with hours outside of a regular workday occasionally required. The ability to prioritize multiple competing demands is required.
This position has access to highly sensitive and confidential information, and interacts with key external stakeholders including donors, alumni and community leaders. The impact of decisions made by this position will be Faculty and University
- wide. Diplomacy, tact, discretion, conflict resolution and ability to manage fluid expectations, projects and deadlines are key skills required by this role.
The Major Gifts Advisor will identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospects who will become donors to our current campaign and future philanthropic leaders at the University. Those prospective donors will be positively affected by interacting with this professional member of the development team, and by their engagement with the university regardless of the size of their gift.
The position is part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine's Development team and is involved in the planning, development and implementation of a proactive development program, to help achieve the school's fund raising targets. By achieving targets, this position will also contribute to the goals of a significant University institutional fundraising campaign.
This position exists to identify and qualify prospects who have capacity to make a gift of $5,000+ to the institution. The position will be responsible for identifying new major and legacy gift prospects, and ensure strong pipeline development from discovery to solicitation to gift closing. The Major Gifts Advisor will also manage the alumni giving and Giving Day program, in collaboration with the UCVM Outreach team, memorial gifts and student awards for the School and contributes to the goal of ensuring continued financial support is received from donors, and appropriately stewarding and recognizing these donors.
The position will manage a pipeline of current prospects as well as be responsible for additional prospecting, with the ultimate goal of discovering and soliciting individuals who will support the University in its current campaign and become important donors for future campaigns. This position will coordinate with other teams as needed to cultivate and steward donors and prospects.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Secure donations at the $5,000+ gift level.
- Develop prospect lists and qualify new donors in compliance with Prospect Management and University policies.
- Develop strategy and manage programs for faculty-driven alumni giving, student awards and memorial and commemorative giving.
- Work with the central Annual Giving team to align planning of annual giving strategies
- Ensure effective collaboration with University units, liaising with Medicine's and the University's internal committees, Alumni Engagement Office, Student Awards Office, Faculty of
- Graduate Studies and the Central Development Office.
- Build strong relationships with donors; develop stewardship and cultivation plans.
- Work effectively in a large, complex, dynamic and sophisticated organization.
- Prepare written fund development materials including proposals, stewardship reports and other materials as required.
- Respect for confidentiality and strong sense of professional ethics.
- Plan to achieve fundraising targets, while recognizing that achievement of financial targets is not the only measurement of success for a fundraiser. Define and achieve other metrics with the Director of Development.

- Practice ethical fundraising in keeping with the University's mission and values and in accordance with charitable giving standards.
