Indigenous Health Education Coordinator

**Description**
The **Office of Indigenous, Local & Global Health **in the **Cumming School of Medicine **is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term **Indigenous Health Education Coordinator **for approximately 24 months.
The Indigenous Program Education Coordinator supports the Indigenous Health Program (IHP) leadership (Associate Dean, Assistant Dean, Manager) in coordinating and guiding Indigenous Health Education initiatives within the Cumming School of Medicine. Reporting to the Indigenous Health Manager at the Indigenous, Local and Global Health (ILGH) Office, the Education Coordinator supports the building of Indigenous health education content and facilitation excellence across all education units at the CSM, with aim to ensuring all graduates and faculty are equipped with critical Indigenous health knowledge and skills. The IHP engages across all units and departments at the CSM to build engagement and capacity for Indigenous health education, serving as an advisor, resource, connector, and knowledge holder to support initiatives for the advancement of Indigenous Health that reflect Indigenous ways of knowing.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
Curriculum Support and Education Project Management
- Support faculty and staff on instructional design, assessment strategies, best practices in the classroom, and the integration of learning technologies related to implementing Indigenous content
- Identify and suggest resources and supports to enhance Indigenous teaching and the instructional setting to support student academic success
- Designs and produces learning materials in a variety of formats to support teaching, learning, and communication needs related to Indigenous content
- Engages across CSM with faculty and students, as well as Elders and community partners on how to create positive learning environments that are respectful of Indigenous students' cultures and identities
- Develop and deliver development training(s) for faculty and staff to enhance awareness and understanding of Indigenous experiences in postsecondary institutions
- Facilitate engaging non-Indigenous faculty and scholars, and researchers with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous communities and organizations
Program Support
- Practices and teaches culturally appropriate ways of engaging Indigenous communities
- Evaluates services and program success, conducting environmental scans, assessing results, and reporting on programs
- Coordinates engagement with Indigenous Elders and community, incorporating Indigenous ways and knowing to create a safe space for knowledge exchange
- Network among established and new Indigenous Health educators
- Prepares pre-community documents and information packages for engagement activities
- Facilitates the dissemination of information and knowledge related to projects, programs, and initiatives under the identified mandate areas through a variety of vehicles
- Develops and fosters relationships with key internal and external stakeholders necessary to build networks and support projects
- Assist with the preparation of reports and presentations
- Prepares written communications including letters of reference, CV updates, Annual Reports, etc.
- Oversees logístical program support, organizing various committees, directing meeting set-up, prepares agendas/meeting materials, and coordinating the recording of meeting minutes and follow-up for meeting action items
- With a high degree of professionalism, liaise with internal and external personnel, departments, institutes, and agencies in a courteous and pleasant manner, and identify and handle conflict in a sensible and professional manner
- Participate in provincial and national conferences focused on decolonizing and reconciliation efforts for Indigenous teaching and learning
- Support the design, implementation, and publication of teaching and research projects
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Master degree or equivalent in work experience in an education related field preferred
- Previous experience in education and curriculum development and delivery preferred, with experience developing content, learning objectives, and consulting with Indigenous community in curricular development
- Knowledge about Indigenous peoples, including culture, health issues, social, economic, and political issues affecting Indigenous communities, to support and facilitate improved relations with Indigenous residents and organizations
- Demonstrate an ability to learn and be self-directed skills
- Knowledge of U of C and other post-secondary institutional programs, particularly regarding Indigenous programs and resources
- Strong knowledge and experience with Indigenous communities focused on health and education services as well as with the traditional community
