Principal Tasks

The primary responsibility of the Software Engineer Intern will be to assist with the design, development, and test of the embedded software for optical transceiver assemblies and plugs in Ottawa, ON.

Supplementary Tasks
- Potentially involved in all aspects of embedded firmware design and development, including architecture, design, implementation, testing, and debugging
- Writing device drivers for complex ASIC’s, FPGA’s, and other components
- Contributing to hardware design and participating in hardware design reviews
- Supporting the initial turn-up of new hardware
- Working with optical, hardware, and test engineers to ensure product goals are met
- Developing automation scripts to validate and test the product firmware
- Developing user interfaces for transceiver assemblies and plugs
- Assisting in the design and implementation of manufacturing test fixtures
- Other duties as assigned

Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience
- BS or MS in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related
- Proficiency in C programming for embedded software
- Experience with real-time operating systems
- Familiarity with ARM or other microcontrollers
- Knowledge of UARTs as well as SPI and I2C protocols
- Experience debugging software
- Ability to read schematics and use an oscilloscope
- Knowledge of optical networking (OTN, Gigabit Ethernet) is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Requirements & Work Environment
- Able to work at a desk majority of the day
- Able to stand and lift 20 lbs.
- Physical abilities compatible with normal office environment
- Teleworking available during pandemic
- Professional office environment
