**KEY FUNCTION**:
The Research Assistant, (RA) will support the operationalization of research projects at HSN and HSNRI, assist in developing collaborative approaches to research, facilitate and coordinate the submission and review processes of clinical research, support the ongoing implementation of projects including start-up procedures, and monitor project progress for physicians, researchers, clinicians and scientists who are actively involved in research.

**REPORTING**:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Clinical Research.

**DUTIES**:

- Provides support to coordinators with development/submission requirements, regulatory considerations, ethics submissions.
- Provides administrative research support to study coordinators.
- Create and maintain filing systems for storing confidential records, retrieve records, enter clinical and pathology data into electronic study databases, enter consent information, and enter other medical information as required.
- Process source documents by reviewing data for deficiencies and resolve discrepancies by following up with the appropriate department or service for resolution.
- Collect data as required by the protocol and ensure completion of Case Report Forms.
- Serves as a liaison by clearly communicating and coordinating with outside industry sponsors in response to investigator queries.
- Provides support to the local study team regarding workflow within HSNRI and HSN to ensure seamless care for clinical trial participants and to promote clinical research.
- Assists with activities related to the training and support of study site staff (physicians, nurses, and medical and administrative staff who are conducting research).
- Assists with maintenance of up-to-date regulatory records and compliance with industry deadlines.
- Works with others to ensure that all conditions of the sponsors are met (i.e. reporting, requirements, certifications, etc.)
- Remains current with changes in research policies and regulations by actively participating in team sharing and learning activities.
- Identifies, develops and maintains a service excellence model based on the principles of continuous improvement.
- Contributes to research administration activities (e.g., development of templates, policies and guidelines to be used within Clinical Research.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**EDUCATION AND TRAINING**:

- Undergraduate degree preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered;
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Minimum of six (6) months relevant experience within the last three (3) years.
- Experience in research activities is preferred.

**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES**:

- Demonstrated proficiency in data entry.
- Minimum of (6) months of experience in research administration
- Solid understanding of regulatory framework and research funding opportunities and guidelines
- Excellent organizational skills including time-management and well-developed multi-tasking skills with keen attention to detail
- Proven verbal and written communication skills for internal and external communication; excellent skills in written and spoken English; exceptional spelling and grammatical skills required with advanced editing and proofreading skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety.
