Reporting to the Director, Research, Innovation & International Relations, the Manager Data Stewardship supports NOSM University’s institutional data management activities and research strategic initiatives.

The position provides managerial support to NOSM U’s research Centres, Institutes and Chairs. Working collaboratively with the Centre or Institute’s leadership or with the research Chair, the Manager oversees delegated administrative activities. These may include fiscal, human resources, facilities, agreements, operational planning and reporting requirements, contributing to the excellence of NOSM U’s research strategic initiatives.

The Manager also has responsibility for NOSM University’s institutional data strategy, the warehousing of institutional data and facilitating access for internal stakeholders and researchers. This includes working with a variety of university leadership team members, including oversight by the University Provost, in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of institutional data initiatives at NOSM University, ensuring legislative compliance, reporting for accreditation purposes, supporting the strategic plan and generally ensuring good data management for NOSM U’s institutional data.

**Responsibilities**:
Tasks may include but are not limited to the following:
**Institutional Data Management**
- Provide expertise in developing related data management policies and procedures at NOSM University, including the data standards committee under the leadership of the University Provost
- Identify opportunities for the university to further leverage data and improve its economic, social, and operational positioning
- Implement, and manage the institution’s data strategy and correlating warehousing of institutional data, including providing visualization for the strategic plan
- Oversee the end-to-end management of the university’s data assets (data lifecycle, information lifecycle)
- Establish controls for ensuring efficient and effective data management functions are performed and ensure compliance for access to the data by stakeholders
- Keep informed, identify, and implement best practices in data management; assess and review the new technology opportunities related to data management, and how these will impact the organization’s data management operations
- Ensure the required accreditation data is appropriately gathered, stored, and made available for the University’s accreditation reporting activities
- Participates in relevant Committees and/or meetings
- Understand and monitor the regulatory and security requirements for data, ensuring compliance and proper protection occurs
- Provide reports as needed regarding data that informs university trends and community profiles

**Administration Supporting Research Centres, Institutes and Chairs**
- Provides management expertise and support to NOSM U’s strategic research initiatives
- Contributes administrative expertise in the creation of operational plans
- Assists with the preparation of annual and fiscal reports
- Leads recruitment activities, including liaising with HR, adhering to hiring policies and procedures and contributing to the recruitment and selection process
- Supervises the work of assigned staff, manages performance expectations and deliverables in conjunction with the Centre or Institute leadership or Chair, imposes disciplinary and non-disciplinary measures as deemed appropriate and ensures that appropriate training and development is provided
- Develops and maintains delegated budgets, ensures fiscal responsibility for all delegated expenditures, and submits required reports. Provides recommendations to the Centre or Institute leadership or the Chair on allocations and efficiencies across the delegated budgets.
- Provide administrative oversight for space requirements, equipment or supply procurement, data compliance etc.
- Oversees related research contracts and agreements and compliance with reporting requirements
- Reviews and comments on administrative policies and procedures
- Assists with communication plans to positively publicize the research activities
- Contributes to the development and implementation of strategic research initiatives
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- A Master’s degree in Business, Health, or relevant field from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Formal training in Data Management
- Project Management Certification is an asset

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Minimum of five (5) years related experience with data management practices and/or managing in a university research environment is required.
- Experience managing in a university research environment
- Experience managing in a unionized environment
- Project management experience including planning, organizing, and managing projects to achieve priorities and
