Title: Youth Skills Development Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Housing

**Summary**

The Youth Skills Development Coordinator is responsible for implementing and leading the Skills Development Program. This project’s objective is to empower at
- risk youth, ages 16-29, who are seeking employment but face barriers to workforce entry by providing them with the opportunity to develop and grow meaningful skills through group-based training and one-on-one tailored supports. The Coordinator will provide intensive case management, while developing individualized employment plans. They will encourage the development of life skills, job seeking skills, job maintenance, transferable skills, effective work habits and professional attitudes through supervising and monitoring youth job searching activities. The
Coordinator will emphasize the importance of mental health and well-being throughout the content of the program.

The Youth Skills Development Coordinator operates under the guidance of the
Director of Housing and regularly collaborates within the Housing/Youth department team members, Youth Homelessness Protcol partners, STU/LBS instructors, job developers, community partners, and workforce employers.

**Job Duties**

Facilitating the Youth Skills Development Program
- Instruct and facilitate 4 days/week, 3 hours/day, 3 sessions/year (spring, fall, winter). The Coordinator will facilitate the first 6 weeks of group-based skill development and employability sessions/workshops.
- Interviewing and screening youth for program suitability
- Accessing the participants needs, developing Individual Employment Work Plans
- Interacting/supporting and providing system navigation to program participants.
- Communicating with YWCA Skills Training & Upgrading (STU) instructor
- Supporting the mental health and well-being of the participants.
- Assisting clients with establishing strong job seeking skills, positive attitudes, and interview readiness.
- Matching youth with work experience opportunities based on skill, interest, and labour market.
- Assisting clients with resume writing, job searching and interview preparation.
- Assessing the need for job related equipment or attire.
- Providing ongoing job coaching, mentoring and support for participants.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Project Administration**
- Developing and organizing the program content
- Preparing for daily classes, adapting the program to meet the current participants needs.
- Arranging internal and external training opportunities
- Documenting attendance, and case notes
- Registering participants into the Ministry database
- Develop marketing materials for group-based and one-on-one services.
- Advertise via social media and provide in-service presentations for community partners to create referrals and build partnerships.
- Networking with potential employers in the community.
- Working with potential employers to develop placement opportunities.
- Completing quarterly reports for the Ministry
- Collect labour market information for clients regarding job openings, entry and skill requirements and other occupational information.
- Managing the Employability Support Fund

**Attending organization and community meetings**
- Participate in case review meetings as required.
- Supporting team members in case conferences as needed.
- Liaison with community partners to best meet the needs of program participants.
- Attending all required staff meetings, professional development, and EDI training.

**Requirements**:
**Education (degree/diploma/certifications)**
- Post-Secondary Education as: Career Counsellor, Job Coach, Child & Youth Counselor, or Social Worker

**Experience**
- Minimum of three years related experience working with young adults 15-30 years.
- Previous experience utilizing a case management model is desired.
- Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of life stabilization
- Familiarity with available community resources in our service delivery area and job placement opportunities

**Knowledge/Skill/Ability**
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner.
- Ability to work effectively within a team approach.
