**University (Advanced Training) Service DogTrainer**
**Job Description**:
SYNOPSIS:
Trainer reports to the Asst. Director of Dog Development, or designate, and is responsible for assisting in the effective and efficient training of all dogs in the University training program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Trainer works as a member of the Service Dog Training Program Team, helping implement service dog programs.
- Train and assess all assigned dogs in advanced training/University program
- Assist with User and Service Dog Placement Training sessions 2-3 times per year
- Assist with ongoing care of dogs in University
- Assist where needed in the kennels with any cleaning, grooming, and bathing of dogs
- Assist the Client Services Team with follow ups and Certification Tests
- Prepare updates on dogs in University at staff meetings.
- Maintaining an inventory of equipment and supplies and reporting needs and/or difficulties to same. (Collars, leashes, jackets)
- Support volunteers raising University Dogs
- Assist with scheduling volunteer drivers for University
- Assist in keeping the facility and trainers office clean and organized.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES:

- Post-Secondary education
- Minimum of two years professional dog training experience
- Knowledge of and ability to train service dogs preferred
- Experience training and teaching people
- Ability to work with persons with disabilities and mental health diagnoses
- Ability to interact and support volunteers, staff, clients, management and the public in a variety of situations
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Ability to work independently and take initiative as well as work within a team environment
- Ability to set priorities and use good judgment
- Comfortable with public speaking
- A valid driver’s license and insurable
