**Role Responsibilities**:
The Director, Municipal Advisory and Capacity is an experienced leader who inspires and leads a team of three unit managers and their teams of professionals in providing expert advisory, training and support services to Alberta municipal officials, municipal administrators, senior ministry officials, and members of the public.

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following**:

- Provide governance and administrative support by managing capacity-building initiatives for municipalities.
- Oversee training and development to ensure staff provide expert advice on relevant municipal legislation.
- Manage municipal election support, offering legislative advice and ensuring timely, updated materials for local authority elections.
- Develop and deliver training for municipal stakeholders in governance, finance, and administration.
- Lead a municipal internship program, promoting career opportunities in municipal administration.
- Support municipalities in fostering intermunicipal relations and providing dispute resolution resources.
- Encourage municipal service excellence through recognition programs and promote innovative service delivery.
- Manage Alberta’s improvement districts, ensuring compliance with legislative and budgetary requirements.
- Lead the Municipal Advisory and Capacity unit, fostering a respectful, effective, and goal-oriented work environment.

**Qualifications**:
**Required**: University graduation in a field related to the position assignment (Public Administration, Humanities, Social Science)) PLUS seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in program and policy planning, program delivery and evaluation or equivalent as described. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

**Equivalencies**:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year education
- Experience with leading a diverse team.
- Good judgement and ability to respond to complex and sensitive issues.
- Public speaking and other communication skills.
- Strong understanding of ministry strategic priorities relating to supporting sustainable and accountable municipalities.
- Knowledge of municipal stakeholder priorities and perspectives.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.

**Assets**:

- Strong knowledge of the governance, finance, and planning and development sections of the Municipal Government Act.
- Knowledge of the Local Authorities Election Act.
- Working knowledge of municipal functions, operations, and procedures.
- Knowledge of consultation processes, project management techniques, conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation processes.
- In depth knowledge of legislation and regulations administered by the ministry and other provincial legislation and regulations affecting municipalities.
