GVCSS is proud to offer Home Sharing through our Community Living program where a person with a disability lives with a family, couple, or a single adult in their home. As the individual becomes integrated in family life, they are given opportunities to develop natural relationships and social circles. GVCSS is currently seeking families, couples, or single adults in South Vancouver who are interested in sharing their homes and welcoming an individual with a disability into their families.

Those interested must qualify to become a home share providers. The following lists the qualifications:
1) Prior training or experience related to supporting a person with developmental or physical disabilities

2) The Home Share Providers shares our commitment to fully inclusive Community Living

3) The Home Share Providers and their families understand that this is a lifestyle choice, not a job. There is no eight-hour shift and then a return to their own families and homes. All family members must commit to the changes required to be a Host Family.

4) The Home Share Providers and their family provide a safe home environment that meets all applicable safety standards.

5) Requirements include:

- Current First Aid Certification
- Criminal Record Search
- Valid B.C. Driver’s License
- Three letters of reference
- Fully Vaccinated

The interview and assessment process consist of:

- Application
- Home study
- Autobiographical interview
- Safety check
- Skills inventory

Various factors will be considered when matching caregivers and individuals, such as social and cultural values, location, and successful personal connection during an interview and integration process. Pay varies depending on the level of support required by the individual. At a minimum, the pay starts at $1,300.00 per month, plus an $841 shelter fee.
