**Course number and title**: CSC2701HY - Communication for Computer Scientists - Handling an Internship Offer, 0.1 FCE (Sections LEC5101, LEC5201, LEC5301, LEC5401)
- Please note, this is a 0.5 FCE course co-taught with other instructors; the hired Sessional Lecturer will teach a module equivalent to 0.10 FCE.

**Course description**: The MScAc degree is intended to create technical leaders capable of transferring new ideas and technologies from academia to industry. Companies seeking to develop innovative solutions to technology-related problems face a critical need for technically sophisticated professionals who are aware of advanced research ideas and can identify commercial opportunities for such ideas. These individuals will provide the conduit between university research and the world of industry, offering substanial benefits of both.

**Estimated course enrolment**: maximum 30 students per section

**Estimated TA support**: To be determined in consultation with the instructor

**Class schedule**:A maximum of four sections. LEC5101 biweekly on Wednesdays 6:00pm-9:00pm; LEC5201 biweekly on Wednesays 6:00pm-9:00pm; LEC5301 biweekly on Fridays, 6:00pm-9:00pm; LEC5401 bi-weekly on Fridays 6:00pm-9:00pm; Each lecture section will have three tutorial sections assigned to it;
- Please note: the delivery method for this course is currently hybrid. In keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery method may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department. The number of sections may be reduced to three, depending on the confirmed number of students registered for the Fall semester. Instructors will be advised ahead of an offer being made, should this be the case.

**Sessional dates of appointment**: Winter session (January 1, 2024-April 30, 2024), however this appointment is only for February 6, 2024 -February 28, 2024

**Salary**: Each section of this module is equivalent to a 0.1 FCE load and thus the salary has been prorated here. All posted rates are inclusive of vacation pay.

Sessional Lecturer I =$1,891.58; Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term = $1,986.16; Sessional Lecturer II = $2,024.35; Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term = $2,065.32; Sessional Lecturer III = $2,072.55; Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term = $2,114.00;

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

**Minimum qualifications**:

- Graduate degree in a STEM or relevant field required.
- Demonstrated superior communication skills required.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required.

**Preferred qualifications**:

- Demonstrated evidence of writing and publishing research papers for publication/presentation at conferences
- Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching preferred.

**Description of duties**:

- Planning the lectures, tutorials, assignments, tests, and marking schemes associated with the module.
- Maintaining a module website.
- Delivering module material.
- Assisting with preparing the breakdown of TA hours and supervising the TA(s) (if applicable).
- Managing the assessment of the module and invigilating the final exam (if applicable).
- Managing and submitting all module grades, including the timely completion and release of grades and feedback to students throughout the term.

While there is a lot of room for creativity in course delivery, instructors will be expected to follow the basic content and style used by the faculty members who normally teach the course, and must get approval from these faculty members or from the Academic Director, Professional Programs for any substantial changes to the module content or assessment methods. Instructors will also be expected to consult with the MScAC Program Team when creating the syllabus, assignments, and final exam/test(s).
