The Department of French seeks a sessional lecturer for FRE273H1S Introduction to the History of the French Language (0.5 FCE) from January 1, 2024 - April 30, 2024.

**Course description**:
A discovery of a long and fascinating history, stretching from the spoken Latin of the Gauls to the many varieties of French found today all over the world via the investigation of the social, political, and cultural causes of language change. Our focus includes topics such as medieval bilingualism, the regulation of language through the Académie française, the political use of the French language, the emergence of the Francophonie and modern Canadian French.

**Estimated TA support**: 75 hours

L05101 TU: 17:00-19:00, TH 17:00-18:00

**Sessional dates of appointment**: January 1, 2024 - April 30, 2024

**Salary**:
Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90;
Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term - $9,930.79;
Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77;
Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term - $10,326.62;
Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76;
Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term - $10,570.02

**Minimum qualifications**:

- PhD in French literature/linguistics or in a relevant field
- Strong expertise in course outlines, planning, preparation of lecture materials
- Previous experience in teaching a course on the History of French Language
- Native(-like) fluency in spoken and written French.

**Preferred qualifications**:
Extensive knowledge of the use of Quercus, specifically test manager and communication tools.
**Description of duties**:
Responsible for all aspects of delivering a university credit course including:

- Teaching a French linguistics course (3 hrs per week)
- Preparation of class material, including tests and assignments
- Marking of tests and assignments
