Youth Outreach Administrator

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Reporting directly to the Manager, Outreach and Engagement and working closely with the Youth Outreach Coordinator and members of the Dean’s Office, the Youth Outreach Administrator (High School Programs) extends the Faculty of Engineering & Design’s outreach activities to primary schools, middle schools, high schools, community centres, and the broader community in a way designed to engage the community in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The Youth Outreach Administrator (High School Programs) will assist with the High School activities of Virtual Ventures, which is a non-profit entity in the Faculty of Engineering & Design (FED) through which many of the STEM outreach activities are run.
Primary goals for the engagement and outreach activities are to
- Build community engagement with the university,
- Foster STEM at an early age and for a broad and diverse population,
- Build connections and sponsorships with industry that have goals of promoting STEM,
- Provide part-time, full-time and co-op job opportunities for Carleton University students to facilitate these outreach activities,
- Increase the reputation of Carleton University and the Faculty of Engineering & Design,
- Create awareness of Carleton University and the many programs at Carleton University and the Faculty of Engineering & Design,
- Build and ensure a diverse and solid base of potential students to recruit into the Faculty of Engineering & Design over the long-term.
The Youth Outreach Administrator (High School Programs) will assist with workshops, after-school programs, clubs and many events both on and off campus focused on High School aged youth, as well as collaborating with various organizations and industry for these pursuits. The Youth Outreach Administrator (High School Programs) is responsible for assisting with planning and delivery of Virtual Ventures’ High School programs, as directed by the Youth Outreach Coordinator and Manager, Outreach and Engagement.
**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Recent knowledge and experience of engineering and information technology in a university setting;
- Superior interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate with all levels of the University, personnel, and constituents external to the University;
- Ability to equip, prepare, and train staff quickly and efficiently;
- Ability to work simultaneously on numerous and diverse projects;
- Resourcefulness, self-motivation, commitment and enthusiasm with an ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy;
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision;
- Ability to travel regularly off-campus to meetings and events, including some evenings and weekends;
- Understanding of engineering, technology, science, math and design concepts to develop, analyze, and review lessons and curriculum;
- Strong organization skills, time management skills, and attention to detail;
- Confident presentation and public speaking skills;
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment;
- Physical ability to lift and move 30 lbs.
Assets
- Knowledge of Carleton University campus;
- Understanding of campus culture;
- Knowledge of Adobe suite;
- Knowledge of WordPress;
- Proficient knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
- Knowledge of technologies like 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics, and associated software.
**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
- University honours degree, preferably in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.
- One year of experience in STEM engagement and outreach.
- Valid G Driver’s license
