**Job Summary**

Under the direction of the Settlement Department Manager, the Employment Specialist is responsible for planning and delivering employment counselling, providing career exploration, Employer Engagement, facilitating employment-related workshops, and assisting Asylum Claimants in their search for appropriate employment in Canada.

**This position reports to**: Settlement Department Manager
**Employment status**:Contract to December 31, 2024, with a possibility for extension.
**Hourly rate**:$28.10
**Start date**:ASAP

**Responsibilities
As an Employment Specialist, you will play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to Asylum Claimants in their pursuit of meaningful employment. Your responsibilities will include:

- **Individualized Counselling**: Conducting one-on-one sessions with Asylum Claimants to assess their skills, experience, and employment goals.
- **Job Search Assistance**: Developing personalized employment plans, guiding individuals through the job search process, and assisting with resume writing, cover letters, and interview preparation.
- **Resource Navigation**: Connecting Asylum Claimants with relevant community resources, training programs, and job opportunities to enhance their employability.
- **Employer Engagement**: Building and maintaining relationships with local employers to create employment opportunities for Asylum Claimants.
- **Workshops and Training**: Facilitating workshops on topics such as job readiness, workplace culture, and effective job search strategies.
- Refer clients to appropriate programs, according to their career goals.
- Perform Intake and Needs Assessment.
- Conduct outreach activities with potential employers.
- Work with clients on active job development and making connections to employment opportunities.
- Support the development and maintenance of employment and career resources.
- Maintain current information on labour market trends in Canada, and the job search needs of international students and recent graduates
- Liaise with other service agencies.
- Maintain accurate data, service records and program documentation.
- Other duties assigned by Manager.

**Qualifications (Education/Experience)**
- Post-secondary education in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least two years of experience in Settlement field, employment and career counselling service delivery.
- Experience facilitating workshops and group sessions.
- Familiarity with eligibility requirements of: Post-graduate work permit, Express Entry (Canadian Experience Class) and Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (International Student Stream) for International Students is desired.
- Knowledge of issues related to newcomers and international students, immigration issues, and employment.
- Knowledge of activities, programs and community organizations that service immigration populations in Ontario.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience delivering services online is preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
- Fluency in **English is required**. Fluency in French, Spanish and/or another language is an asset.
