Our client is opening a new location in Vaughan and looking for a self starter Health and Safety Manager. This is an exceptional opportunity to showcase your expertise and make a significant impact on the company's health and safety initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Daily safety engagement with the sites H&S Manager or their designate, for all required safety initiatives on the project
- Effectively skilled in using WSIB Excellence Program to save and reduce safety incidents
- Regularly conduct training, and/or training needs assessments in safe work practices and procedures
- Perform and contribute to the Site Training Plans by conducting new employee safety orientations; emergency response training; and coordination of modular training programs for the construction activities on site
- Conducting follow up root cause incident investigations
- Complete an initial thorough “as is” “gap analysis” and prepare a plan for the development of a robust H&S program for either business unit.
- Identifies HSE risks on a continuous basis and recommends changes and updates safety work instruction.
- Provides monthly and yearly analytical reports to leadership on initiatives and results.
- Assists in the overseeing and advise the activities Joint HSE Committee and managers.
- Partners with managers, supervisors and employees to create safety work instructions. These safety work instructions should clearly outline what is expected of managers, supervisors and employees with regard to safety. Safety work instructions will cover topics such as hazard reporting processes, accident investigation procedures and basic safety rules.
- Provides safety training on several topics (as required). These topics include fire prevention plans, fire protection and hazardous materials communication. The Health and Safety Manager coordinates and or delivers this training and documents that each employee has completed the requirements. The Health and Safety Manager will submit training records to the Administrative Assistant.
- Performs due diligence safety inspections and audits in all departments and will provide recommendations to correct them before they cause accidents. The Health and Safety Manager may conduct these inspections alone or as part of a group that includes managers and supervisors. Safety inspections may also help safety coordinators determine whether any employees are using unsafe safety practices and may need more training.
- Works closely with the Human Resources Manager and on all modified work accommodations.
- Any time an accident occurs in the workplace, the Health and Safety Manager conducts an investigation along with the shift supervisor, team leads, joint health safety committee employee rep and the injured worker. The main reason for an investigation is to determine the cause of the accident, but this process also helps determine whether the employees involved were following established safety policies or government safety regulations. The Health and Safety Manager completes accident investigations; they report their findings and work with managers and employees to develop plans to prevent similar accidents. The Health and Safety Manager also has a role in monitoring and reporting monthly and YTD results.
- Manages the PPE program - Boots, glasses, gloves, uniforms, etc.
- Attends crew meetings with management and plant staff to provide safety and legislative updates.
- Performs other duties as assigned for which he/she has received training, possesses qualifications and/or is considered competent.

**Job Specifications**:

- Minimum 5 years related experience, preferably in a steel manufacturing environment is an asset
- The Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or equivalent would be an asset
- Previous work experience in industrial manufacturing as asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (excel and power point)
- Experience in a union environment

**Work Environment/Conditions**:
This is a site-based job. Additionally, the job is in a fast-paced working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities.

**Salary**: $90,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
