Altera Infrastructure is a leading international marine services provider for the crude oil transportation and offshore storage to the offshore oil production industry, focused on the ownership and operation of shuttle tankers in offshore oil regions of the North Sea, Brazil and the East Coast of Canada.

Altera has an office in St. John's Newfoundland, to manage the existing regional contracts with Oil Companies of the Grand Banks East Coast Canada Project (ECC). Altera provides shuttle tankers services for offshore crude oil loading and transportation at Hibernia, Terra Nova, White Rose and Hebron offshore oil fields. The St. John's division operates under Altera (Atlantic) Management ULC.

East Coast Canada (ECC) Shuttle tanker fleet currently utilizes three (3) Canadian flagged shuttle tankers (Beothuk Spirit, Norse Spirit and Dorset Spirit) and one (1) Bahamian flagged shuttle tanker. Altera sees a real potential for future growth in Newfoundland and Labrador and further offshore commercial loading and transportation activities can be developed.

**Position Summary**

The Vessel Manager position is a key role in the Altera organization working on the forefront towards our ships and customers ensuring a safe, sustainable and cost-efficient operation.

The Vessel Manager (VM) is responsible and accountable for the full management and performance of nominated vessels within the ship team. The VM is the vessel's representative in the Office and responsible for all office activities toward allocated vessels.

**Major Responsibilities**
- Treat safety and environmental compliance as a top priority.
- Conduct performance management reviews of key seafarers and onboard Ship Management Team follow up in cooperation with Marine HR functions.
- Ensuring HSEQ policies, and Company Sustainability vision is treated as top priority onboard.
- Ensuring compliance with all rules, regulations, and internal/external requirements applicable to vessel and trade, and in particular Company policies for Anticorruption and Code of Conduct.
- Follow up with Flag State, Port State, classification societies and other external authorities (incl. Charterer/ Field Operator) as necessary on vessel technical and operational matters.
- Effective planning, coordination, active execution and documentation of planned and unplanned maintenance, Class survey and internal/external inspections, including on site supervision.
- Fleet spare management for effective repair/maintenance/operation of the vessel, including maintaining required minimum stock/ spares.
- Ensure together with Marine & Vetting group effective close-out of SIRE, Offshore Audits, PSC and Flag State findings.
- Develop yearly ship budget (Opex/Capex, Dry dock and project) together with vessel management team and F&A department.
- Ensure vessel is operated as cost effective as possible within approved budget and operational requirements.
- Establish effective work relations and communication with ship staff, support functions and other relevant parties internal and external parties.
- Carry out regular visits and inspections to meet with ship staff, confirming condition and compliance with Operating Standards.
- Interface with technical functions, to assist and drive resolution of the vessel technical issues.
- Ensure all Technical Changes follow the Change Management process
- Effective and correct process for the procurement of services and materials through Service Requisitions (SR) and Purchase Orders (PO).
- Inform and coordinate maintenance/repair requirements impacting availability of vessels effectively.
- Form part of Emergency Response Team as lead on technical issues and responsible for communication towards the vessel.

**Requirements, Knowledge, Skills**
- Relevant experience as senior officer, 1st Engineer/Chief Engineer, 1st Class Motor.
- Knowledge of vessel and tankers trade specific requirements and 3rd party marine assurance processes.
- Knowledge of technical operations for the vessel types managed.
- Knowledge of key equipment and systems on board vessels managed.
- Good knowledge of the East Coast Canada offshore Oil & Gas business.
- Good understanding of the Canadian rules and regulations for our domain of activities.
- Knowledge and vessel management experience with technical ship operations.
- Demonstrates teamwork, interpersonal and communications skills.
- A desire to drive continuous improvement in self and others.
- Analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
- Fluent in English, both oral and written.
