WHERE YOU COME IN
Beyond managing accounts payable, the role requires a manager with strong financial acumen and an affinity for working with financial data; your exceptional attention to detail impresses. You are adept at working within processes and requirements, but also keep a keen eye on how processes can be improved to maximize efficiencies, including the use of new technologies and tools. This role not only needs to be able to think strategically, but to dive into the detail with a hands-on approach that gets things done.
This role can be based out of any Make-A-Wish Canada office and is a full-time, permanent, hybrid position.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Oversee the full accounts payable cycle by reviewing team operations to ensure accurate and timely invoice and payment processing, while understanding vendor needs and optimizing processes to support them effectively.
- Effectively respond to internal customer requirements in an agile manner.
- Continuously review the accounts payable processes and data to identify and implement improvements. Work in collaboration with the Director of Finance to identify and implement new tools to facilitate automation throughout the process.
- Supervise a small accounts payables team. Hire, manage, train, and develop staff. Assign, and prioritize tasks, establish goals, set expectations, and evaluate performance.
- Ensure proper recordkeeping of purchases for use in public sector tax rebates claims and ensure proper maintenance, filing, and storage of records to support potential CRA audits.
- Develop and maintain accurate and efficient month-end close processes including month-end journal entries and other accounting functions.
- Collaborate with the National Wish team to ensure accurate and timely reporting of wish expenses, including the use of strong data management skills to prepare relevant reports to support key senior management decision making tools
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders (employees, auditors, and vendors) to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of financial management operations. Create an effective customer service focus within the team.
- Become proficient with QuickBooks Online Advanced, understanding its range of functions, in order assist in continuously evolving our use of the tool.
- Work closely with and provide collaborative support to other functional areas in the Finance Department.
- Performs other financial/administrative tasks as the need arises.
WHAT YOU BRING
- CPA designation or a degree in accounting or business, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in a senior role and 10 years’ work experience in an accounting role preferred.
- Previous work experience in a non-profit environment is a strong asset.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks is highly preferred.
- Advanced user of Excel.
