**Primary function**

Legal Aid Ontario is looking for a manager to provide leadership in the management of all legal (including per diems), paralegal and adminstrative staff responisible for providing legal aid services in criminal court.

This role will appeal to a results-oriented individual with excellent relationship-building skills. Strong leaderships skills coupled with demonstrated commitment to client service and creative problem solving abilities will round out your experience.

Reporting to: Director General, Central East District

**Key accountabilities**
- Oversee the administration of legally aided services (criminal) in the Newmarket location;
- Inspire, motivate and mentor staff to ensure that clients are being served effectively and efficiently
- Act as a liaison between Legal Aid Ontario, the Judiciary, Ministry of the Attorney General and the private bar, including sitting on various committees/ consultation groups;
- Work collaboratively with other LAO departments as well as external stakeholders to address any issues or concerns that may impact client service
- Manage Newmarket WASH court - must be available to work as WASH court manager at least one weekend per month
- Manage departmental budget including statements of accounts and services and track quality assurance measures.

**Required skills & experience**
- Experience in leading or managing change
- Proven experience in directing and developing both professional and administrative staff as well as financial managing skills.
- Demonstrated innovation and initiative, along with strong consultation, facilitation, mediation and negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of the Legal Aid Services Act and Regulations and an appreciation and understanding for LAO’s continuum of service model.
- Experience in and exposure to rules of practice and procedure in criminal court.
- If you are a practicing lawyer or paralegal, you must be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada
- French language skills are preferred.
