New Westminster, Canada Ability Healthcare Custom Products Ltd. Full time

_**“We need special people to work with special people”**_

**THE POSITION: Medical Technician Trainee**

You’re creative, energetic, smart, computer-literate and a lover of humanity. You’re curious about how people, from kids to adults, live with physical disabilities. You think you might be interested in the growing field of personal mobility and assistive equipment, to help people with special needs get out into the community, go to school or work, and be a part of society. You’d love to join a high-energy team, designing, making and recommending equipment that makes life easier for children and adults with disabilities.

**YOUR PLACE IN OUR COMMUNITY**

You’re a natural hard worker, have a high level of personal integrity, and are motivated to learn new skills and abilities. You love designing and making things, and either have experience or would love to learn about shop fabrication techniques and work. You might be familiar with design programs like Solidworks or Rhino, for CNC production. Meanwhile you may not know anything about the medical equipment field, or even have a lot of demonstrated technical skills, but are highly motivated to learn.

In order to learn, you will need to record and absorb lots of new medical and technical terminology. You will learn skills and techniques to become a fabricator of custom personal support devices. Forming detailed product specifications to become a knowledgeable consultant for complex manual and electronic wheelchairs and other commercially available personal aids and equipment, is also something you will need to grow into.

The goal is for you to work with a team including clients, medical prescribers and caregivers, to help to create a holistic vision for the unique needs of the special clients we serve. In that team, you will participate in the development of new designs and processes.

**ABOUT YOU**

You are articulate in oral and written English, and have some post-secondary training, such as a diploma of technology or university degree. You can work respectfully within a sensitive clinical environment, and learn medical concepts. You love to explore, experiment, create, help, organize, facilitate, participate and share. You are attracted to learn to use tools and machines, various materials, design programming and bench work to craft and create custom designed and upholstered seating units for placement in wheeled mobility devices. We work daily with industrial sewing, upholstery, woodwork, welding, metalwork, plastics forming, CNC and other processes.

You are a consummate note-taker. Be honest: some people are and some aren’t. Does this describe you? Do the details of any project you undertake, whether theoretical or practical, fascinate you? Are you scrupulous in your management of those details, in terms of recording and processing them efficiently?

We are all about detail. You will need to absorb, martial and record a myriad of technical information during your learning experience. Later on you will also solicit and record a lot of confidential medical information and details for clients with special and unique requirements. Then you will collaborate with professional medical prescribers to assess and recommend additional commercially available mobility and other personal healthcare equipment.

Is this you? If you are ready to launch into to a training and growth opportunity with a committed group of motivated and talented colleagues, we’d like to talk with you.

**ABOUT US**

We are a small but expanding company (12 people) near Skytrain in New Westminster, established in 1993. You will be required to help with some additional shop and office duties to assist the team. Full training will be given.

**YOUR COMPENSATION**

Compensation is commensurate with your education, design and technical experience, and aptitude. A new Trainee will start at $52k to $62k per annum, depending on qualifications. There is good upward potential as you grow with us. Health plan is included. It’s a dynamic and rewarding industry - let’s have a conversation

**IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE YOUR CALLING, WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU**

Please send your resume and an introduction / covering letter. You may wish to include a link to any images of anything you have designed, constructed or made, to show your creative and/or technical side. We are willing to train the right person, so let us know as much as you can about yourself and your goals and dreams and personal passions:

- education and work history, with dates
- any familiarity with design programs or CNC operation, (we can teach)
- Word, Excel, database familiarity
- any technical or fabrication skills you may have
- achievements, hobbies
- personal goals and leadership experience

**Salary**: $52,000.00-$62,000.00 per year

**Benefits**:

- Extended health care
