**ACCOUNTING MANAGER**

40 hours/week

**Waterloo Office**

The Accounting Manager leads the Accounts Payable team, Banking Administrator and Finance Assistant, providing support and development and ensuring quality of work. They are responsible for implementing and maintaining good internal controls along with complete, correct, and timely preparation of financial transactions. The Accounting Manager communicates with both internal and external stakeholders and assists with corrections during the resolution of escalated issues.

**Responsibilities**:

- Develop, establish, and maintain effective lines of communication with all stakeholders (e.g., Finance Department, Program Managers, and vendors).
- Support teams by dealing with escalated issues from customers, managers, and other agencies.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure appropriate information and reporting is provided.
- Prepare and review input to monthly financial statements, including responding to Executive Director and manager questions.
- Find resolutions to issues with transaction processes as they arise.
- Identify gaps in current systems and make recommendations for improvement.
- Identify, recommend, and implement changes to accounting procedures and policies.
- Recommend best practices for performing accounts payable and payroll day-to-day team duties.
- Perform regular reviews and adjustments of processes, timelines, internal controls, reporting, and communication.
- Identify exceptions within processes; direct team members to investigate and adjust accounting information.
- Develop and promote financial effectiveness and efficiencies to improve financial accountability.
- Review and prepare cost allocations.
- Hire, supervise, direct, and coach team members.
- Complete staff performance appraisals annually and promote staff development.
- Lead and participate in meetings and serve on committees.

**Requirements**:

- 4 years of related accounting experience
- Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Accounting
- Managing change
- Resource Management
- Leading others
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
