**Job Summary**:
The John Howard Society Enhanced Supportive Housing Program is for men and women who are long-term shelter users. The program provides semi-independent accommodation and support to men and women, age 18 and over. The John Howard Society of Ottawa manages the site with support from Ottawa Inner City Health and the support of other community partners.

**Community Development Responsibilities**:

- Develop and implement recreation activities to increase Resident’s quality of life and community participation.
- Engage front line staff in the delivery of community programing.
- Develop a users guide for recreation events that can be used in years to come.
- Understand clients that struggle with addictions, aggression, criminality, physical and mental health issues.
- Maintain knowledge of and assist clients with referrals to appropriate community service agencies.
- Prepare and attend all clinical supervision sessions as required.
- Maintain professional development through participation in relevant training, participation in supervision and through counselor development plans.
- Ability to coordinate all on-site program related functions through a gender
- and trauma-responsive framework.

**Program/Building Responsibilities**
- Intervene and provide support to clients.
- Adhere to all security and/or safety protocols associated with Carruthers.
- Attend staff meetings as required.
- Facilitate excellent collaborative relationships with program colleagues and provide coverage when required.
- Assist in maintaining a positive environment for clients and colleagues.
- Actively communicate with SW to support client and building safety.
- Participate in the residence on-call rotation, adhering to the relevant policy and procedures.
- Perform other duties as may be occasionally requested.

**Report Writing/ Administrative**
- Maintain client master files by affixing assessment and intervention plan, discharge reports, statistical forms, and any relevant internal or external documentation.
- Ensure client file notes are maintained on the client information management system.
- Produce additional written reports and records as required.
- Produce all documentation associated with recreation activities.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- University Degree/College Diploma in the Social Sciences

**Preferred Experience**:

- Minimum two (2) years working with homeless population.
- Experience in housing/residential setting
- Experience working in a Harm Reduction environment
- Experiences working as part of an Interdisciplinary team.
- G class Driver license and access to a vehicle.

**Preferred Knowledge and Skills**:

- Demonstrate use of Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques
- Experience working with a client-focused, case management approach to faster housing stability.
- Understanding of and experience working with clients that struggle with behavioural issues
- Familiarity with the Residential Tenancies Act and other relevant legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act)
- Competency in using needs assessment instruments (e.g. SPDAT)
- Competency using various data collection and case management software.
- Experience building capacity in, and supporting people around, daily living skills.
- Experience working with people with substance use and mental health disorders.
- Experience working with people with acquired brain injury.
