**POSITION TITLE**:Communications Officer**

**LOCATION**:Division Office in Camrose, Alberta

This position is responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of a strategic community engagement and communications plan, execution of communication strategies, fostering and maintaining effective relationships between the Division, our schools, the public and the communities served by Battle River School Division. This position is responsible to the Superintendent.

Battle River School Division provides quality education to approximately 5600 students in 19 traditional schools, 6 of which are within the City of Camrose, and 13 within the counties comprising the Division, as well as 10 Hutterite Colony schools. We have alternative education programs offered through Battle River Alternative Center for Education and North Star Outreach. Battle River also has a French immersion dual track program in three Camrose Schools, as well as a Home Education program.

**POSITION REQUIREMENTS (QUALIFICATIONS)**:

- Post-secondary degree or related certification in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Community Engagement
- Proven professional experience in social and network media as well as a strong working knowledge of related tools and technologies
- Experience in media relations, issues management, special and large group events and print production
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication with a high level of accuracy
- Capability of maintaining confidentiality
- Ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with stakeholders and employees
- Bilingual in French is an asset

**GENERAL DUTIES**:

- Design, develop and implement complex engagement and communication initiatives that include a variety of media, including print, online, web, and social media
- Provide strategic community engagement advice, counsel, and support to the Board of Trustees, Senior Administration and schools, including but not limited to creation and assistance with internal memos, newsletters, and speeches
- Attend Board meetings and Committee Meetings and prepare Board notes as required
- Deal with enquiries from the public, the media, and other organizations
- Prepare messages for publications, news releases, correspondence, speeches and a variety of other communication vehicles for internal and external audiences
- Maintain membership and involvement in CACE (Canadian Association of Communicators in Education)
- Act as FOIP Coordinator to ensure privacy of student information
- Implement a marketing strategy to increase student recruitment, retention, and undertake relevant research for sustained growth
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
