- Reporting to the Centrally Assigned Principal, under the professional guidance of the Coordinator, _
- the Training Assistant, Autism Services will collaborate as a contributing member of the Autism _
- Services team in supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) across the Toronto _
- District School Board: _
- The Training Assistant, Autism Services will: _
- _Model and demonstrate appropriate educational strategies that provide effective programming _
- for students with ASD. This may take place in a one to one, small or large group setting, as _
- identified in the Autism Services team recommendations. This may include training in personal _
- care and life skills; _
- _Provide assistance in modeling effective transition plans and ABA (Applied Behaviour _
- Analysis) strategies to support implementation of PPM 140;_
- _Collaborate with Autism Services team to develop and prepare recommended programming _
- materials required to implement recommendations;_
- _Guide and assist schools in the preparation of additional support materials; and _
- _Act as a mentor to colleagues working with students with ASD._

**Summary of Duties**:

- Responsible for modelling and implementation of instructional strategies including the use of

adaptive and assistive technology to support students with ASD. This includes strategies that
support students’ personal care needs (e.g., toileting, lifting, movement and feeding);
- Collaborate with Autism Services team to develop and prepare recommended programming

materials required to implement recommendations;
- Provide one to one direct student support for short periods of time;****:

- Participate in team meetings and case conferences and provide frontline feedback, input etc.;
- Plan and deliver professional development to school staff and particularly for TDSB EAs and

SNAs;
- Research resources and collect data for various purposes;
- Attend appropriate professional development sessions to enhance and extend knowledge in

the field of ASD; and
- Other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Two-year community college diploma (e.g., ECE, DSW) with a minimum of one year’s related

experience in the field of Autism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Understanding of appropriate software and assistive technology that supports students with

special needs (e.g., Boardmaker);
- Ability to support students with ASD using appropriate interventions;

suite, spreadsheet, database and presentation packages;
- Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with teachers, student, parents and

staff;
- Effective presentation skills;
- Record keeping and data analysis skills;
- Current First Aid and CPR certification;
- Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality; and
- Proven ability to work as a team player.

**Assets**:

- Autism Intervenor Certificate; and
- CPI training/certification or equivalent

**Special Requirements**:

- Provision of own vehicle for Board Business;
- Requires regular travel within Region (LC2 and LC3), and occasionally across TDSB;

**Hours**: 35 hours per week
