Library Services Coordinator

**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Head Librarian, or their designate, and in collaboration with other Library staff, the Library Services Coordinator will develop, monitor, and evaluate various programs and current service delivery model, inclusive of outreach and communications plans based on the Library’s Strategic Plan and general mission. The Library Services Coordinator will ensure a welcoming environment at the Library branches in order to encourage and promote the mission, services and programs of the Tay Public Library system.
**Responsibilities**:
- **Administration**:_
1. Embraces Library values by learning, being comfortable with new ideas, and supporting innovation and change to deliver greater benefit for Tay community members.
2. Actively supports the initiatives of the Tay Township Public Library Board and Township of Tay. Provides community information and information on the Township of Tay such as special advisory warnings, issuance of fire permits, Health and Safety, etc.
3. Understands the relationship between library policies and customer service and seeks opportunities to alleviate policy barriers to good service.
4. Performs all aspects of circulation desk duties using ILS (Integrated Library System), including collection maintenance, issuance of letters related to overdue/lost materials, etc.
5. Responsible for branch petty cash and deposit forms, the collection of fines and payments, and records transactions related to overdue materials, lost materials, donations, etc.
6. Responsible for general housekeeping of branches, and recommends to Head Librarian, items required for budget consideration, large improvements, etc.
- **Library Operations and Programs**:_
7. Responsible for the operation of circulation desk and provisions of reference services at all branches, while providing a high level of customer service to patrons of all ages, in the promotion of all Library services.
8. Assists patrons with education and inquiries related to computers, internet, electronic resources, e-devices, personal assistive devices, interlibrary loans and catalogue. Provides reference/reader advisory services utilizing a number of resources including print and electronic resources, databases and the internet.
9. Coordinates and implements programs of a literary or social nature, appropriate to Tay Township community needs including, but not limited to; book clubs, story hour, children’s performance series, workshops, summer reading program, author readings, etc. Develops and delivers resident engagement plans and programs for Library initiatives as well as program participation activity, program feedback and statistical reports detailing program usage. Coordinates and utilizes volunteers or third-party organizations for new program opportunities and support as much as possible.
10. Responsible for the development of content and maintenance of Library website, monthly newsletter as well as monitoring and management of library social media under the direction of the Head Librarian.
11. Designs, delivers and coordinates displays, brochures, handouts, posters, and bulletin boards for special events and general library promotion in collaboration with the Township of Tay Communications Specialist. In addition, acts as liaison to community groups, schools and community stakeholders.
12. Creates press releases for approval by the Head Librarian.
13. Coordinates and trains local volunteers, ensuring that the volunteer experience is positive and that the skills of the volunteer match their abilities and goals.
14. Responsible for cataloguing duties including monitoring of the system (quality control), acquisitions, cataloguing of purchased and donated materials, and collection maintenance to ensure that records are accurate. Makes recommendations to the Head Librarian, or their designate, for collection purchases.
15. Coordinates materials for inter-branch, Pool, and Simcoe County Co-Operative exchanges.
16. Ensures compliance of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation by following the Township’s Health and Safety program, procedures and best practices.
17. Performs other related tasks and functions as assigned that are required or dictated by the Library’s needs relative to the nature of the position. **Qualifications**:
**Education and Training**
- Completion of post-secondary education in Library and Information Science and/or a Library Technician program from an accredited educational institution.
- Completion of the Ontario Public Library Service’s Excel Program in Small Library Management is considered an asset.
- Formal coaching/mentoring training considered an asset.
