**Description**
The **Cumming School of Medicine**is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **Manager, Student Advocacy and Wellness Hub.**
The position reports to the Associate Dean People, Culture and Health Promotion. The Student Advocacy and Wellness Hub (SAWH) Manager also works closely with the Assistant Dean and Associate Directors of SAWH and collaborates with the following Medical Education Units to develop and implement student wellness and advocacy initiatives (UME, BHSc, GSE, DLRI, MPAS).
The primary purpose of this position is to manage all operations of the SAWH. This includes training and management of the coordinator & administrator, supporting student counselors to triage students to the appropriate resources both in and out of the school and ensuring the availability of those resources. This position develops, monitors and performs quality assurance assessments on the status of the student body. A high level of privacy and confidentiality is required for this role.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
Leadership Management:
- Development and implementation of the SAWH budget and stewardship over various Research & Trust funds related to the SAWH contingent resources and student initiatives.
- Accountable for the accuracy and integrity of all transactions and initiatives undertaken by the Coordinator and Administrator
- Responsible for the full scope of human resource management for direct reports
- Determine SAWH staffing needs in support of SAWH strategic goals
- Manages the creation of job profiles, hiring and onboarding of staff
- Updates profiles as needed
- Performs and engages staff in annual performance reviews
- Performs disciplinary actions as required (including terminations)
- Supports and mentors direct reports and provides opportunities for career development and ongoing learning/education
- Participates as an active member of the SAWH Management Team to develop departmental goals and provides ad hoc reports and analysis to faculty and senior leadership
- Anticipates needs of the Associate and Assistant dean and other faculty to prepare and provide information for reporting to Senior CSM Executive and AHS Departmental Leadership
- Collaborates with other CSM departments (PGME, DLRI, BHSc, GSE etc.) in the creation and implementation of projects and/or initiatives relating to Student wellness and advising
- Receives structured feedback from stake holders in the form of services evaluations for all presentations and individual student sessions for ongoing quality improvement including any changes necessary
Program Management:
- Prepares ongoing analysis and recommends improvements for financial activities for the SAWH
- Accountable for the University of Calgary Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (UCLIC)
- Accountable for the Preceptor and Student Support program and the Faculty Mentorship Program
- Accountable for the Student Satisfaction Survey
- Accountable for the CaRMS Workshop, Careers in Medicine, the Wellness Series, the Study Buddy program, Student Run Tutoring Program and Faculty Mentorship Program
- Voting member of the Awards Committees
- Work with curriculum and assessment supervisors in UME, BHSc, GSE, DLRI to plan resource availability around exams and other stressful times (ex. Resident matching, Licensing exams)
- Develop and maintain relationships with community resources for students on and off campus (eg. PFSP)
Strategic Planning:
- Responsible for monitoring goals and performance measures for direct reports within the SAWH
- Advises faculty, staff and students on issues that could potentially pose a conflict of interest
- Participate in the planning, implementation and management of new strategic initiatives and programs that fosters change in areas such as (but not limited to) student wellness and EDI
- Liaise with other main campus wellness services (SSC, SAS SUWellness etc), medical schools across Canada, residents and all other CSM learners as required and participates as part of a national working group to enact these initiatives
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- A Bachelor Degree is required
- A minimum of 5 years of management/leadership experience in an educational or medical environment
- A combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience managing in a unionized environment is an asset
- Evidence of business and strategic planning, team building and staff supervision is required
- Strong financial management, planning and resource allocation skills
- Strong written and oral presentation skills
- Working knowledge of computer systems including database and financial systems
- Strong critical thinking, judgment and decision-making skills
- Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and organizational skills
