**Hours**: 10 hours per week including evenings and weekends

**Job Summary**:
The coordinator supports the peer network (for people with lived and current living experience with substance) for projects that are part of SAFE Mission and at times MOCAT (Mission Overdose Community Action Team). Projects include the Mission SAFE group, harm reduction outreach, International Overdose Awareness Day events, Episodic Overdose Prevention Sites; Social Media, including podcast group; arts-based and other outreach initiatives. The peer coordinator works as a member of our team to identify and support peers, schedule peer shifts and programs and events to ensure all shifts are covered, offer support and training to peers, promote adherence to COVID-19 guidelines including hygiene, social distancing and personal protection equipment guidelines, and other related duties.

**Responsibilities**:

- Work with peers and community partners to identify network members.
- Facilitate outreach, training, and support.
- Scheduling of the peer rosters and ensure each shift for the projects is covered.
- Find a replacement for shifts that cannot be covered, and be willing to take their spot.
- Manage the distribution of peer stipends.
- With oversight from the board manage day to day budget and track expenses, prepare reports
- Assist with art making activities.
- Support peers through active listening skills and non-judgmental attitude.
- Support peer engagement in projects by providing individualized support for each peer, including advocating for their wellbeing.
- Attend community events to increase public awareness and provide resource information about overdose response.
- Provide Naloxone and other training to peers as well as to community members.
- Order and transport food/refreshments for meetings and peer training sessions
- Provide regular updates to the board and regular reports as required.
- Responsible for on-going evaluation of sessions delivered throughout the project.
- Provide referrals for other services as required.

**Required Qualifications**:

- Have lived or living experience with substance use (includes family members/friend of someone who is using substances)
- Demonstrated understanding of the unregulated toxic drug crisis and issues related to substance use.
- Valid BC Driver’s License and use of a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to work flexible hours—some early mornings, evenings and weekends.
- The ability to work independently.
- Some experience with public speaking, delivering/facilitating education sessions helpful.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Have completed or willing to complete Basic First Aid.
- Have completed or willing to complete the Take Home Naloxone Train the Trainer.
- Have completed or willing to complete Food Safe Level I.

- Friendly, personable, and motivated to support peers.
- Skilled in compassion, inclusion, and respectful relationship building.
- Able to create supportive and safe peer-led spaces that are welcoming and include Indigenous Cultural Safety practices.

Good inter-personal skills, including comfort approaching and initiating conversation with peers, families, seniors, and service providers.
- Excellent communications skills including active listening and ability to engage in difficult and sensitive conversations in an empathetic and respectful manner.
- Working understanding of the importance of confidentiality and boundaries

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: $25.00 per hour
