Disability Management Coordinator

SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Manager of Health, Safety and Wellness, the Disability Management Coordinator will provide support to both the occupational and non-occupational disability portfolios. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating confidential administrative functions on matters relating to claims processing, disability, medical absenteeism, accommodations and return to work planning. The Disability Management Coordinator is responsible for keeping up-to-date records, tracking metrics and reporting on current and upcoming employee absences.

The Disability Management Coordinator must be well organized with a high level of attention to detail, able to meet recurring deadlines and able to always ensure a high level of confidentiality.

The ability to foster and maintain strong working relationships, particularly with Human Resources and Payroll are also critical. Regular written reports of activities are provided by the Disability Management Coordinator to the Manager Health, Safety and Wellness who is consulted about difficult problems or concerns, along with proposals for resolutions, where possible.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Administers the occupational/non-occupational disability management system to ensure accuracy, supporting documentation and related staff coverage.

Assists in the coordination of routine and complex return-to-work or stay-at-work programs including employee accommodations.

Liaises between schools and departments around disability claims including short-term, long-term and WorkSafe claims.

Supports department managers in administering and implementing attendance support and safety programs.

Carries out the administrative components related to reporting, investigation, closure and tracking of workplace incidents.

Acts as a resource and provides updates and advice on departmental processes related to disability management and medical leaves.

Maintains confidential disability-related databases, health records, including personal and medical information, and physical files.

Records minutes for confidential meetings and generates correspondence, including well-documented accommodation and/or return to work plans.

Tracks, analyses and reports on disability related data; develops reports and identified trends.

Maintain professional, ethical behavior and confidentiality

Performs other related duties as may reasonably be expected of a person in this position

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate good public relations skills, exercising good judgment in dealing with a variety of enquiries

Ability to work cooperatively with others including both department and other school district staff

Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Sound knowledge disability management programs such as short-term disability, long-term disability and Workers’ Compensation, as well as awareness of Human Rights legislation, WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, Workers Compensation Act and safe work procedures.

Superior administrative skills including the ability to organize and prioritize work, produce detailed, accurate documentation, and multi-task in a fast-paced department.

Experience in WorkSafeBC occupational claims management and return to work or stay at work programs, including accommodation initiatives.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively liaise on tasks both intra
- and interdepartmentally.

Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, tact and discretion in sensitive and confidential situations.

Strong computer skills including MS Office and claims management software.

Ability to work independently with the appropriate level of initiative and thrive in a team environment.

Ability to use some independent judgment in performing assigned tasks following departmental procedures

Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision

Ability to maintain records and basic reports

**Education and Certification**:
Grade 12 Graduation

Successful completion of a diploma program of two (2) years in Disability Management or an equivalent program of two (2) years.

Valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s license; a driver’s abstract to be provided annually
