The Marine Environmental Observation, Prediction and Response Network (MEOPAR) is seeking an Assistant Program Manager to join a growing team responsible for managing, administering, and overseeing research and program funding. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Assistant Program Manager is a critical role that supports the definition, evaluation, selection, and management of programs. With a broad portfolio of research, community, and knowledge management initiatives, you will engage with expert researchers, academic and government institutions and gain program management experience.
**Key Responsibilities**
In this role, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to define programs, evaluate and select calls for proposal, award funding, and oversee progress and other program delivery post award. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the end-to-end call for proposal process, ensuring that appropriate templates, requirements and processes are used to evaluate submissions and award funding.
- Engaging internal and external experts as required to support / approve the definition, evaluation, and award of programs and initiatives.
- Setting up and maintaining required program management documentation at the onset of each program, including schedule, budget, and scope documents, and monitoring program progress on a regular basis.
- Ensuring that program delivery teams understand reporting and other compliance requirements, working with them to ensure compliance for the life of the program.
- Monitoring program progress, escalating issues and risks as required and confirming that outcomes are achieved.
- Preparing internal reporting, summarizing project status and other information, as required.
- Ensuring that complete and accurate records are maintained that demonstrate compliance with internal processes and any compliance requirements.
- Establishing and maintaining positive collaborative working relationships with award recipients, external experts contributing to the programs assigned to you, Scientific Directors, Finance, and other stakeholders.
**Preferred qualifications and experience**
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education, training and project management experience required
- Program or project management experience, such as Project Management Professional Certification, gained through on the job experience or formal training and/or
- Knowledge of the Canadian research, academic, and/or government landscape, for example, recent graduates of marine science or environmental programs, or students completing related graduate studies, and/or
- Other experience working with senior researchers and academics.
**To be successful in this role, you must have**:
- Excellent written communication skills and be able to write clear call for proposal documents.
- Keen attention to detail - you will need to ensure that all funding requirements are clearly articulated in each call document and fully and properly evaluated prior to award.
- Organized and able to follow at times complex processes and requirements.
