Toronto, Canada East Toronto Village Children's Centre Full time

**Major Responsibilities**:

- To help RECE, ECA staff and children design and implement an age-appropriate program following Ontario’s Pedagogy requirements.
- Brings to the attention of the RECE staff any discrepancies with the health of the children or parent comments
- Directly responsible for the care, safety & supervision of the children
- Encourages all children, staff, volunteers, and students to follow proper hygiene habits.
- Instructs and assists children in washing, dressing, toileting, eating, etc. to develop self-help skills.
- Helps to document attendance of children, washroom charts, prepares reports, and completes any other paperwork, as required by legislation and ETVCC policies and protocols.
- General Maintenance of program equipment: checks toys, rooms and equipment used in activities, to ensure safe functioning and sanitizes same inclusive of laundry as required.
- Participates in staff, team meetings & mandatory educational workshops taking and transcribing minutes on a rotational basis.
- Availability to work within the hours of ETVCC Centre operations, from 7:30-6pm
- Not hired to a specific room, can be switched at any time to meet programming requirements, and needs of the Centre. Two weeks’ notice will be given prior to changes.
- To assist colleagues as required.
- Other duties as needed for Operational Requirements or directions given by the Director and/or the Board of Directors.

**Mandatory requirements**:

- Monthly staff meetings and training
- Orientation training of the Centre (upon starting, or changes to the Centre).

The following is to be kept in good standing at the employee’s expense, as it is City requirements, Ministry requirements, and Public Health and Centre policies:

- A medical assessment by their family doctor with a signed note stating they are healthy to work with children and all required vaccinations are current or a signed affidavit. (Upon starting).
- All medical vaccines need to be up kept individual and given to the Director to keep on file.
- A clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check signing of an annual mandatory ‘offence declaration’. (Before starting). A Police Vulnerable Sector Check can be asked during any time of employment, paid by the Centre.
- Standard First Aid including infant/child CPR (renewed every 3 years) or as needed. **The Centre will pay for this when it is done onsite**, however if you miss the date, you are responsible to pay for it on your own and provide a copy to the Director for your file.

**Job Specifications**
- Experience working with children in a licensed facility an asset.
- Enjoying playing with children and viewing them as competent, capable of complex thinking, curious and rich potential.
- Fundamental knowledge of the CCEYA, Public Health Regulations, Child and Family Services Act and Children’s Services (AQI) with the ability to meet the specifications of these acts and any other related legislation that applies to this work.
- Excellent skills in; written & verbal communication, patience, problem - solving, coaching, leading, and motivating children/staff/students & volunteers.
- Knowledge and leadership skills designing, developing, and implementing a program following Ontario’s Pedagogy for the early years, ‘How Does Learning Happen’.
- Enjoy playing with children and viewing them as competent, capable of complex thinking, curious and rich in potential.
- Ability to supervise children at **all** times.
- Ability to converse with peers/parents in a respectful, diplomatic, and non-judgmental manner.
- Ability to cooperate and follow instructions.
- Ability to communicate in English fluently & effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to be flexible, punctual, responsible, and approachable.
- Ability to converse Policy discrepancies by peers, volunteers, students to the Director in a professional manner.
- Use of personal communication devises (cell phones, tablets etc.) while on duty is prohibited, unless otherwise approved by the Director for documentation.
- No drinks are permitted in the program area, with the exception of water.
