**Job Description**:
***: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor - WPCP, the Chief of Maintenance directs, instructs and works with the maintenance staff; inspects and repairs and maintains equipment used in the operation of wastewater treatment and wastewater collection systems; and provides technical direction to the mechanical staff. The Chief of Maintenance relieves the Maintenance Supervisor and may be designated as the Overall Responsible Operator, as required.
**MAJOR TASKS**:
- Working in a team environment with the Chief Operator and the Chief of Electrical, directs, instructs and works with the maintenance staff and performs the duties of the Millwright or Operator as required.
- Carries out scheduled plant maintenance as per programs and maintains the facility maintenance system program.
- Provides technical direction and guidance to mechanical staff.
- Reports on the normal operations of equipment and recommends replacements of units showing wear or equipment requiring maintenance.
- Checks and accounts for maintenance and inventory of safety equipment and provides technical direction and guidance to staff on the use of plant safety equipment.
- Maintains maintenance data collection systems and prepares reports.
- Requisitions and obtains the necessary parts, materials and tools and is accountable for return or assignment of work orders.
- Prepares maintenance time sheets and schedules for approval.
- Maintains and upgrades plant schematics, manuals, operating procedures, and narratives.
- Relieves the Maintenance Supervisor, and may be designated as the Overall Responsible Operator, as required.
- Conducts plant tours.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**:
- Must have a secondary school graduation diploma and be a Certified Journeyman Millwright or held the position of Maintenance Relief Operator - WPCP for a period of at least five years
- Proven experience with the use of computer preventative maintenance software
- Must have proven practical process-related experience
**Skills/Abilities**:
- Must possess the ability to direct, instruct, and work with Plant staff and to supervise the wastewater treatment process
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent
- Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Must be capable of issuing clearly understandable written/oral instructions and be tactful and courteous with the public
- Ability to attain a First Aid Certificate
**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
- Possess and maintain certificates of competencies for wastewater treatment and wastewater collection to the level of the facilities within 60 days from the date of hire
- Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
- May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified)
- Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
