This is an exciting time to join Personal Insurance Operational Risk & Controls function at Aviva Canada. We are growing and are looking forward to adding professionals with strong property and casualty insurance backgrounds to our team, who are looking to add value through the Operational Risk and Control Management Framework.
This first line function is responsible for implementing and embedding risk & control frameworks across Personal Insurance. Do you enjoy identifying, assessing and managing risk as part of running your day to day operations? Does the opportunity to design and perform controls to mitigate risk exposures, including control testing, and highlighting inadequate processes and unexpected events/incidents motivate you? We will challenge you to implement risk and control improvements.
Working with the Personal Insurance (PI) team you will be accountable for providing an aggregated view of all existing and emerging operational risks facing our $3.9b Personal Insurance business.

What you’ll do- Proactively review and support oversight of PI risk profile through management of risks, controls (including testing), issues, and actions including the identification of material changes, trends or themes and emerging risks.- Increase the PI Technical Knowledge within the Risk and Control Team- Oversee risk management tool (I Care) ensuring quality, accurate, timely and complete records.- Support the planning and remediation of risks outside tolerance- Identify opportunities to enhance and/or simplify risk management Processes- Lead continuous improvements of reporting, ensuring the requirements of various committees are met.- Use data and Insights to enhance risk management for PI- Support PI Risk and Control function in setting and achieving the annual risk plan- Develop and lead Risk and Control Champion Community across PI business- Oversee operational risk appetite metrics to ensure we remain inside tolerance- Ensure projects are supported through risk workstreams, managing the risks arising and transferred to the business through-out the project life cycle.- Oversee the risk event/issue process, including identification and remediation of root causes- Provide the team with insight into the operational risks that it faces through qualitative and quantitative methodologies.- Support the AVP in executing on Risk & Controls function mandate: implementing and embedding risk and controls frameworks across Personal Insurance.- Provide professional support and coordination of risk management activities through collaboration with second line risk, global GI teams, governance teams and internal audit.- Support the business in developing and reporting robust key risk indicators (KRIs) to track Personal Insurance risk profile.
What you’ll bring- 8-10 years of experience in the property/casualty insurance industry with progressively professional experience- Detailed knowledge of business processes and operations, insurance principles and practices- Drive to ensure PI manages its risk within the Operational risk appetite / metrics- Ability and desire to inspire change in a complex and innovative environment.- Solid relationship building and collaboration skills- Aptitude in project management or similar organizational skills.- Diploma or degree in business, economics, finance or other related field or equivalent experience.- ORM certification, CIP, FCIP, CRM designation or equivalent designation is beneficial.- A graduate degree (e.g. MBA) will be considered an asset.
