**Position Summary**

Under the direction and supervision of the Special Projects Manager, the Special Project Coordinator, will be responsible for assisting with the coordination of a regional gathering to bring together Survivors, intergenerational Survivors, and community Leadership from First Nations in Manitoba. The Special Projects Coordinator will approach the work with culturally appropriate services and support to First Nation’s searching for children who are buried at residential school sites.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist with the coordination of a regional gathering involving all First Nations in Manitoba, and others.
- Assist and provide support to the AMC Elders Council on their participation, oversight, guidance and direction to AMC Leadership on the IRS Gathering.
- Assist and provide support to First Nations on their efforts for community-based initiatives undertaken in Manitoba.
- Assist with Identifying requirements and procurement of training required for trauma-informed supports; equipment; and technical resources.
- Share required information and communications between First Nations.
- Ensure proper local protocol is considered, respected and implemented for the remains of children located.
- Provide support and assistance to First Nations conducting searches of Residential Schools in Manitoba.
- Support First Nations to ensure culturally appropriate supports are available to Survivors.
- Assist with Local engagement and knowledge gathering with First Nations in Manitoba.
- Work closely with the Special Projects Manager as it relates to unmarked graves at residential schools in Manitoba.
- Assist with Identifying commemoration and memorialization activities including The Forks in Winnipeg, at residential school sites, and First Nations.
- Assist when requested to host ceremonial, healing and commemorative activities.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**

**Education & Experience**
- Bachelor of Arts or a related discipline and/or a related equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Experience in dealing with the issue of residential schools, working with residential school survivors.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in one of the five First Nation languages in Manitoba.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of First Nations culture, history, Treaty, and inherent rights.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, and of First Nations in Manitoba, and the issue of unmarked graves at residential schools.
- Excellent verbal, written, inter-personal communication and presentation skills.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Be able to follow office practices, procedures, and confidentiality.
- Knowledge of First Nation people and communities in Manitoba.
- Work flexible hours and travel upon request.
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
- Must have a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check, and Clear Child Abuse Checks.
