Over the past 20 years, the Common Law Section of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa has become a national and global leader in many fields. Position Purpose:
Working under the Manager, Undergraduate Studies Administration, advises and orients students in their program and course selection, determining their needs and fostering their success, integration and academic progress. Approves requests related to students’ academic progress. Manages operations related to academic processes (scholarships, national and international exchanges, letters of permission, etc.). Offers expert advice to academic assistants, undergraduate studies administrators, the academic administrator and the manager, academic affairs.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Advises and informs potential clients, as well as students, about programs of study, academic regulations and other academic requirements, to determine needs and build the type of trust that fosters student retention and success.- Advises students wishing to take part in international exchanges, study at another institution (with a letter of permission) or transfer to another institution. Ensures distribution of necessary information (through information sessions, publication on Faculty and University websites), to promote section programs and ensure proper follow-up.- Assesses students at risk and determines problems. Meets these students, establishes an action plan and provides advice and guidance. As needed, refers them to the manager, equity and academic success, to determine the best approach or solution to help them advance in their program.- Analyzes graduating students’ files, and meets graduating students as needed, to confirm that enrolment changes requested meet their program requirements. Recommends changes as required.-
- At the end of each term, analyzes academic performance and approves measures to be taken (promotion, probation, mandatory withdrawal) in accordance with academic regulations. Monitors students whose files aren’t compliant with Faculty or University regulations.What you will bring:
- In-depth knowledge of postsecondary studies and law programs in Canada and abroad- In-depth knowledge of policies, procedures, regulations and academic processes normally acquired through a university education or equivalent experience- Experience in assessing academic files, with ability to identify problems and suggest solutions- Experience in assisting clients with academic matters- Experience in student academic orientation- Experience in interpreting and explaining regulations- Experience in managing and coordinating projects- Experience in writing in both of the University’s official language-
- Strong organizational skills with ability to work under pressure, in a team and while meeting strict deadlines- Communication (including public presentations), interpersonal and problem-solving skills- Bilingualism — French and English (spoken and written)
