About the Role

Saplings Outdoor Program is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Forest School Educator to join our team. As a Forest School Educator, you will be responsible for designing and implementing dynamic outdoor programs for preschool and school-aged children in various locations around Vancouver, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Collaborate with our management team to develop and implement a comprehensive forest program that aligns with our organization's mission and values.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Ensure the safety of all children participating in our programs, including forest play, hiking, climbing trees, and other outdoor activities.
  • Program Preparation: Prepare and maintain learning areas and materials to ensure a high-quality learning experience for our participants.
  • Equipment Management: Assume overall responsibility for program tools and equipment, including safety, use, and maintenance.
  • Seasonal Activities: Plan, prepare, and co-create seasonal activities and projects that utilize natural materials, locally foraged or sourced.
  • Mentorship: Implement mentorship strategies that are individually focused and age-appropriate, with an emphasis on compassion and respect.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Physical Demands: Be physically capable of performing teaching duties with enthusiasm, regardless of the weather, including the ability to walk distances and over uneven terrain, carry a backpack and supplies.
  • Outdoor Skills: Model and teach outdoor skills, including risk management, knots, shelter building, self-care, leave-no-trace practices, and interacting with local wildlife.
Qualifications
  • First Aid Certificate: Current First Aid Certificate is required.
  • Criminal Record Check: Current Criminal Record Check is required.
  • Experience: Work experience with school-aged children, preferably in outdoor education focusing on play-based, student-led learning.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, as you will be interacting with children and parents.
