**TITLE: Research Intern**
**REPORTS TO: Manager of Research**
**TERM: 12 Weeks: June 12, 2023 to September 1, 2023**
**RATE: $20.65 per hour**
**Location: On site or remote working**

**Purpose of Position**

The Research Intern will work closely with team members in the Exhibitions, Research, and Collections Department, performing a variety of research-related tasks primarily in support of the oral history and history programs.

Projects will include preparing oral history entries for the Museum’s online database, and contributing to the creation of content for the Oral History Gallery and online projects.

Tasks may include but are not limited to: For the Oral History program, writing biographies of participants based on interview content; selecting, editing, and reviewing interview excerpts; updating clip transcripts; coding interview content using qualitative software; and updating internal database fields. For the History program, providing research support, including image and moving image research; researching and writing short texts; and other tasks as assigned.

**Experience, Skills and Qualifications - Required**
- Master’s degree (in progress or obtained within the last year) in History, Public History, Immigration studies, Anthropology, or related;
- Abilities in locating, evaluating, and synthesizing large amounts of information from diverse sources;
- Experience working with digital assets including audio, audio-visual, and still image files;
- Good editing and writing skills;
- Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills, especially in dealing with diverse source material;
- Ability to engage with content that encompasses diverse cultures, identities, and experiences.
- Ability to work with difficult or challenging content;
- Ability to exercise discretion regarding privacy issues associated with interview content;
- Ability to communicate well, and in a tactful and professional manner;
- Ability to take direction, but also to work on own initiative;
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

**Experience, Skills and Qualifications - Desired**
- Fluent in French and English, spoken and written;
- Knowledge of Canadian immigration history.
